New Confused BCBA - Writing My First Treatment Plan With a Very Unsuccessful Assessment
2023.06.11 00:16 TinyTinyTurnip New Confused BCBA - Writing My First Treatment Plan With a Very Unsuccessful Assessment
Hello! I've been working as an in-home BCBA for three months now at a small company after 6 years of being an RBT, and I honestly feel that I am kicking butt at the day-to-day aspects of the job. My techs like working with me, my clients are making good progress, and I'm managing to build great rapport with my families who are participative. I love this work! However, I'm struggling and receiving very little support (even after asking for specific assistance) on reauthorizations and assessments, for which I have little to no experience. I asked for this specific type of training a lot during my fieldwork, but nothing was ever provided to me beyond probing skills on assessments in an otherwise strong fieldwork experience.
I just completed my first initial evaluation of a client who has been in a clinic for a few years and had a VB-MAPP with skills peppering throughout level 2 and 3 from their last plan. I am new to the VB-MAPP but spent time carefully reviewing it and bringing supplemental materials to help me get through as many items as possible. I spent the first hour conducting an interview with caregivers so the client could get used to my presence, and another 3 with the child where roughly an hour of it was just spent pairing and tracking spontaneous items. However, they were completely non-cooperative as soon as any items were presented (even sneakily!) and would repeatedly state, "first work, work all done". I could not even probe very many skills through play because they had such strong rigidities that they did not want me touching anything or disrupting/joining their independent idiosyncratic play routine. I got almost nothing filled out on this assessment while trying my very best due to a lack of MO and rapport. There was no generalization as far as I could tell from their clinic environment.
I'm not too disheartened, because I know that I can continue probing as I build rapport throughout his first 6 months, and his barriers assessment will show why I didn't get too far! Within my 5 years in ABA, I have absolutely worked with some kids that give me squat until I've built rapport for weeks. However, I have no idea how to write a robust treatment plan with so few items completed, and I absolutely don't want to write goals that are far below their level of ability just because I do not have rapport with them. My supervisor suggested against revisiting them for another assessment session due to existing barriers, as I would likely be wasting the limited hours I have left to write my treatment plan. The expectation is that this will be a 30+ hour per week case, and I feel very lost in writing this treatment plan to get insurance approval. I deeply appreciate any words of wisdom experienced BCBAs have. I'm trying to keep confident because I'm doing great elsewhere, but this is tough stuff!

2023.06.11 00:05 guccigangkanan What's your life like with vocal tremors? Have you always had it?
Hello everyone, this is my first time posting here. As you probably assumed from the title, I have a shaky voice. I'm not sure what the cause of it was, but it seemed to have started at the beginning of middle school. Sometimes I wonder why this happened to me. I became self-conscious of how I sounded which eventually led to anxiety and being a nervous-wreck when it comes to talking to people. This sort of impacted my social life; meeting new people, etc. I have friends who I've known forever, so they've gotten used to my speech, but during my high school years I was surrounded by a majority of unfamiliar faces. I ended up being that one quiet guy and never talked much (I barely talked.) I still did make new friends and (thankfully) they've gotten used to how I talked too. However, the one thing that still bugs me a lot is whenever I have to speak out loud and all attention was on me, like presentations. The expressions of some people is so painfully obvious that they were wondering why the hell my voice is so shaky and 1-on-1 conversations with people I don't normally talk to is such a pain. I feel like I'm making it awkward because I don't know what to say and am focused on trying to sound regular. Now, of course I've learned to somewhat control it and am able to speak clearly sometimes, but there's still a tremor here and there. I feel like whenever I have to think before saying something, it worsens. That's my experience with it so far. My life isn't terrible overall because of it, but it'd be nice to be able to speak normally.

2023.06.11 00:04 zliperz 25/M/Brazil ๐ง๐ท โ Hey, let me see your halo..
Hello, welcome, dear visitor!
Right now, you're reading the words of a 25-year-old Brazilian guy, and to be honest, I'm possibly one of the most eclectic guys you can meet. You know that person who's interested in so many different things that you just feel like you could talk for hours and hours and never get bored? Well, I hope to be that person for you.
I work remotely in an online education business, my hours are flexible, which allows me to enjoy geographical freedom, so I want to take this opportunity to adopt digital nomadism, even if it's just for a year or two, it's an experience I need to live.
Studying history and culture from other countries is something that fascinates me, I mean, I'm even interested in the smallest details of everyday life. That means I research about people's experiences living in those countries, the cultural differences they feel between cities, how laws work, what entertainment options are available, which local bands are successful in that region, what language-related difficulties they face, how social life is in general, what the food is like, etc. For instance, I also love watching movies and series set in other countries, and there are YouTube channels where a guy with a camera walks through various cities around the world, just filming, like a "virtual tour," I think it's awesome. I need to travel and see all these things with my own eyes. I want to feel the world, discover new flavors, appreciate new melodies, acquire new accents... I want to live.
I'm writing this ad for two reasons:
First: As mentioned in the previous paragraph, I'm very interested in life in other countries, in the broadest way you can imagine. So being able to talk to people who were born in other parts of the world, often with a completely different background from mine, would be special, don't you think? I believe we can share experiences and learn a lot from each other. We can learn from our differences, we can be surprised by our similarities, we can laugh together at various memes and dumb jokes. We can share playlists.
Second: I really want to expand my social circle, I'm open to new friendships in my life, that add value and stay long term! That would be perfect. However, I have to be transparent with you about the type of person I'm looking for, here are the requirements:
. You are truly open and receptive to a new friendship.
. You feel comfortable with long messages. You're quite talkative.
. You believe we have things in common (the more, the better) and we can get along well.
. The more optimistic and self-confident you are, the better.
. I'm open to meeting people from any continent, country, city, even Brazilians.
. I'm open to people of all ages (as long as you're an adult).
Music: I listen to pretty much everything: Rock (progressive, punk, new wave, grunge, classic, indie, emo, etc), POP, Jazz, Blues, R&B, Reggae, Tango, Classical Music, Bossa Nova, Country, Metal, Soul, etc. Old and new songs, no problem at all. I've created more than 40 playlists on my Spotify, and each one is in a different language. Discovering new artists is something I do almost daily. Consequently, I also enjoy watching people dance, and my favorite styles are Tango, Jazz, Tap, Classical Ballet, Waltz, and Urban Dance. I really love watching choreography videos. If you want to see my playlists on Spotify, here's the link:
https://www.reddit.com/usezliperz/comments/12uuotg/my_playlists/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button You'll find playlists in Italian
The "Sodamania" playlist is my favorite band's playlist, Soda Stereo from Argentina ๐ฆ๐ท.
Movies: Believe it or not, I watch movies of any genre, from horror (Us, Hostel, SAW) to children's animations (Chicken Little, Over the Hedge, Tangled), as long as the experience is good, that's what matters. My official favorite movies are: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Once, Blue Jay, Bridge to Terabithia, Finding Neverland. There are other movies that could make this list because I love them too: La Vita ร Bella, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Charade, It's a Wonderful Life, Shutter Island, Jab We Met, Arrival, Eternals... There are many other movies that I really enjoyed watching, like Logan, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, The Tree of Life, Song to Song, Catch Me If You Can, Forrest Gump, Grease, Medianeras, etc. And yes, I'm excited to watch Barbie in the cinema. I like classics like Rocky, Rambo, but there are many other classics that I haven't watched yet, you'd be surprised if you knew. The actress I like the most is Audrey Hepburn, for everything she represented, for her elegance on and off the screen, super authentic and admirable. When it comes to TV series, I also like several (Suits is one of my favorites), however, in recent years, I've been giving a lot of preference to Korean dramas. I used to really enjoy a Japanese reality show called Terrace House, but it got canceled. Honorable mention goes to Bnei Aruba, a great Israeli series.
Sports: I root for a Brazilian soccer team called Grรชmio. I love watching Olympic games (including Winter Olympics). I like watching F1 races (rooting for Leclerc), Tennis matches. I'm getting closer and closer to the major American leagues, and I'm strongly sympathizing with the Boston Celtics, in the other leagues, I still don't have a defined team. When I was a kid, I played soccer and practiced swimming. In the future, I want to play tennis, and it would also be cool to practice martial arts (kung fu, karate, and taekwondo).
Languages: Portuguese ๐ง๐ท is my native language, but I can handle English ๐ฌ๐ง and Spanish ๐ช๐ธ pretty well too. I've studied a bit (basic) of Italian ๐ฎ๐น, French ๐ซ๐ท, German ๐ฉ๐ช, and Norwegian ๐ณ๐ด. Right now, I'm studying the Arabic alphabet ๐ฆ๐ช and taking my first steps in Korean ๐ฐ๐ท, Japanese ๐ฏ๐ต, Hebrew ๐ฎ๐ฑ, and Croatian ๐ญ๐ท.
Religion: I'm a Noahide. A non-Jew who believes in the Torah. My theological view is similar to Orthodox Judaism, although our lifestyles are different. So if you're Jewish (or Israeli ๐ฎ๐ฑ), it would be great to have your company. If you're Muslim, know that I'd love to meet you too. I want to visit several Muslim countries, including each of the United Arab Emirates ๐ฆ๐ช, Morocco ๐ฒ๐ฆ, Turkey ๐น๐ท (especially Izmir), Saudi Arabia ๐ธ๐ฆ, Egypt ๐ช๐ฌ, Jordan ๐ฏ๐ด, Qatar ๐ถ๐ฆ, etc. If you're Hindu ๐ฎ๐ณ or any other religion, feel welcome too. My family is Christian, so I have no problem talking to Christians either.
Politics: I'll only talk about the economic issue: I believe in the free market, I love the Austrian School, and I identify with Mises' thinking. That's it.
Look, I'm a guy who loves to laugh. I like to have fun. I like to have deep conversations and also silly conversations. I like to talk about Greek mythology, architecture, technology, and also like to talk about fashion, cooking, animals, etc. I'm ambiverted, I hate lies, my zodiac sign is Gemini (not that it matters), I need to fight procrastination every day. I walk fast on the street, and it bothers me when people are walking slowly in front of me. Iโm from Belo Horizonte and I've never been to Rio de Janeiro. I have a diary. I want to leave photographic records for future generations. I hate bothering people. But you know what? I'm a great listener, and I'm looking forward to meeting you and hearing your stories! We can be great friends... I know that most of the time things don't work out here the way we'd like them to, but so what? We're here now, and we have the chance to do things differently, right?! So come on, let's start something beautiful!
If you've read this far and identified with my words, send me your best message, and I'll make it worth it!
P.S: if you're too shy:

2023.06.11 00:04 ConversationSenior48 Migrating from iPhone and canโt choose android phone
Hey guys! I have a question about android phones. I have never used one, my first smartphone was blackberry, then I bought iPhone 3GS and then iPhone 6s which Iโm using till now, changed two batteries, he is holding like a champ and canโt do me a favor and die already lol, obviously 6s is obsolete at this point.
I donโt have budget to buy flagman for now so Iโm choosing between new midrange and used last year phones preferably. AND ITS REALLY HARD LOL,
I watched a ton of YouTube videos and android phones is a mess, no offense. I canโt wrap my head there are so many options.
So to the main point - my priorities are 1) nice screen, bigger than my current 6s 2) good battery life 3) as stable software as possible without glitches and overall fluidity 4) camera. I never play games, only media consuming and travel photos My options in my country are: Used pixel 6 - 325$ Used pixel 7 - 450$ Used s21 plus - 350$ New pixel 6a - 350$ New a54 - 400$ Used s21 ultra - 460$ Used s22
My budget 350-400$, I could probably toss another 50$ if there is really cool phone to buy, but I donโt know if they worth extra 50-100$ and better to settle with cheaper options like pixel 6 or s21 And I donโt want any chinese phones like xiaomi, oppo etc.
Thank you in advance! And sorry for poor wording, English isnโt my native

2023.06.11 00:03 Rhinnie555 Help Please, with online dating?
Would love some adviceโฆ. I am in my Mid-30s - let myself finally realize I am a Lesbian a few years ago. I would like to start casually dating/hooking up/meeting new friends but I have no connection with the Queer community in my area.
I have never online dating before (hetero marriage for 10+ years). I tried a few lesbian specific dating apps awhile ago and just didnโt see much action in my area. I have recently got on Tinder where there seems to be a lot of people but I canโt seem to get anywhere past โHellosโ if anything. I keep tweaking my profile and my photos. I think I look great and sound interesting but I donโt know what I am doing wrong!
I havenโt paid for any advanced features on Tinder - not sure it is worth itโฆ It seems like there are a lot of gay women on there, although I do live in a fairly conservative mid-US city but still a large city.
Honestly any advice would be greatly appreciated.

2023.06.10 23:58 zliperz 25/M/Brazil ๐ง๐ท โ Hey, let me see your halo..

2023.06.10 23:48 zliperz 25/M/Brazil (๐ง๐ท) โ Hey, let me see your halo..
2023.06.10 23:44 raitoStr [REQUEST][STEAM] Factorio (3rd Attempt)
Hello! In this post I'll tell you all about Factorio and why I want it. I am unfortunately not able to get this game for myself but hopefully there's a kind soul in this sub who can buy the game for me. Please excuse any spelling mistakes as English is not my first language.
About Factorio You play as a character known only as the engineer. You crash land on an alien planet and the objective is "simple". Build a rocket and escape the planet. With only a pickaxe in hand you start off by mining ores, chopping trees and crafting transport belts and inserters by hand. Labs are used to research new technology and are fueled by science packs. Soon, you'll be able to make machines that mine ores or craft things for you. At the start of the game, things are mostly powered by coal but in a short time you'll be able to research and craft steam engines and boilers which turn water and coal into electricity. Everything in your base creates pollution and unfortunately, on this alien planet are, aliens. So called "biters" that have hives which absorb pollution to create more biters. more hives and evolve. You'll be able to defend yourself with a wide range of defenses such as turrets. Gun turrets, flamethrower turrets, laser turrets or artillery turrets all of which need ammo that can be crafted manually or automated. Later on, you'll be able to research modular armor customizable with personal laser defense, energy shields and more. You can also customize your world to your liking. You can completely disable enemy spawns or have them surround you right at the start of the game.
Factorio also supports multiplayer. Players can solve problems and build massive factories together, or they can go against each other in a PvP mode.
Why do I want Factorio? Well, for starters, because it is an IMMENSELY satisfying game. With more than a 100,000 positive reviews on Steam, it has endless replayability, tons of QOL features, large overhaul mods like Krastorio 2 or Space Exploration for even more hours to sink into the game. It is a very polished game and you could find a bug in the fabric of reality before finding a bug in Factorio. I can easily see myself pour more than a 100 hours into the game. I also played the free demo for Factorio and after a couple of minutes, it got me hooked. It scratched an itch that I have not felt for YEARS after looking for many games to play. The only thing I was wondering when playing the demo is: how the hell haven't I found about the game earlier when it's so popular? It's an extremely well executed game and I'd have an absolute blast playing it.
End
If you read the entire post, thank you! I spent more than I'd like to admit on typing all this up.
Here is the link for my Steam account and Here for Factorio in case you need it. Have a good one!

2023.06.10 23:44 mugsydee47 Seeking advice on the process
Hello! Wow what a world of stress Iโve stumbled into needing a new passport! Grateful for this subreddit and have been reading and learning. Figured Iโd ask the collective and see what wisdom you all may have as Iโm deciding the best way to approach
Trip begins August 4 and I need a new passport because my old passport is over 15 years old. My partner needs to do the same, and his old passport looks a bit beaten up.
I was able to may an appointment at my post office so I can get the authorization form to be mailed along with old passport , but my partner says it may be better to try to wait the two weeks before the trip to get the in person appointment. I see here that may have us traveling out of state. Currently we are in NYC. We gotta wait until the two weeks before right ? Instead of mailing after post office appointment. Does paying a courier service help?

2023.06.10 23:32 EloiseEvans The Blackout and r/HPSlashFic
Hello
HPSlashFic By now you have probably heard a lot about
The Open Letter about API Pricing. Some of your
favorite subreddits may have signed up to protest. When we cross-posted the letter, plenty of people were confused about what API even is, how this pricing would impact them, and why it was worth talking about. Since then, there have been a number of posts about this very subject, all explaining better than we could. Subreddits like
explainlikeimfive have highlighted in an easy way to understand
what API is and
why this is change is a problem.
AskHistorians have explained in detail why so many Mods are upset and, frankly, disillusioned, in the wake of the Admin announcement.
To a lot of people, the API changes are not a big deal.
If you use the Official Apps and have no issue navigating it, thatโs great. You may not have known that third party apps existed, or why people prefer them. If youโre wondering why people canโt just use the official app, we can acknowledge that for many users it is simply a personal preference. Theyโre used to it (some of us have been using them for years before there was ever an Official App) or they might simply prefer it because of the designs and features. If youโre interested in a visual representation of why so many prefer third party apps,
please check this bestof comment out for a side-by-side comparison.
For mods, the mod tool support of these third parties largely makes our jobs much easier, which keeps the communities we all love safer. On a third party app, we can accomplish in two clicks what would take the Official App five. This efficiency means we can address more problems in the community in a more timely manner.
If youโre thinking to yourself, โIf these apps are making a profit, Reddit deserves a cut!โ we do agree. What we take issue with is that their API is being valued at 10-20x over what other similar services do, to the point where
almost every app has released some kind of statement that indicates
these changes will kill their apps. I could link to more statements like that, but you get the idea.
Before you ask โwhy canโt they just run ads to offset those costsโ, Reddit has already decided this will not be an option for third party apps. One thing to be aware of as well is that
even if a third party app manages to survive July 1st through a subscription based model alone, those apps
will not have all the same content as the Official App. Namely, despite paying for the privilege of having a choice, NSFW content will be unavailable and invisible to those users.
If youโre thinking "well, I'm fine, I only use the mobile website via my chosen mobile browser" (chrome, mozilla, etc), you should be aware that Reddit has already been testing functions which
eliminate mobile web browsing, and there is no guarantee that your preferred method of using Reddit wonโt be next.
Limiting user choice, charging exorbitant and predatory fees, and refusing to communicate, are all significant problems that we take an issue with. However, the one we find most egregious is what this change will do to members of Redditโs blind community.
How are blind Redditors impacted by this decision?
In short, Redditโs Official Apps leave a lot to be desired at best, and are barely functional at worst. The app on iOS has incorrectly labeled controls, doesnโt always work with swipe, and not all functions can be accessed. For blind moderators, it can be difficult to impossible to find the moderation functions necessary to moderate, and customizing layouts to better suit their needs or make the app easier to navigate is similarly difficult to impossible. Third party apps
have addressed many of these types of issues because Reddit wonโt, giving these underserved communities a voice that Reddit seems to have no problem taking away.
You might ask yourself how blind users navigated Reddit before there were apps, and the answer is that
it didnโt always used to be this way, but it has certainly
always had accessibility issues. In fact,
discussions about accessibility have been going on for months, if not years. Just a few months ago, Reddit received a
free consultation to make their mobile layout more accessible.
Reddit did not follow up privately or publicly until the protestโs momentum
started to build. Even after numerous, far more recent interactions with the Admin, there seems to be little progress or commitment concerning these issues. This type of interaction is exactly why we feel that Reddit is not making accessibility a priority.
Subreddits like
blind are vital for the visually impaired in various stages of blindness, providing not just a source of communal support, but insights, strategies, and resources to navigate their new and changing lives. In the wake of Reddit's changes, subreddits like
blind will be forced to go dark, leaving an already overlooked group without the invaluable support they both need and deserve.
These changes will also significantly impact volunteer run support subreddits such as
transcribersofreddit and
descriptionplease, which serve to allow visually impaired Redditors to read text images, and receive descriptions of visual content such as videos and images. These volunteers are indispensable to the blind community, because Reddit is the only social media website with no support for alternative text. As visually impaired Redditors are forced to use an app that is not designed with accessibility in mind, these communities will shrink, wither, and may cease to exist. (See
this video for more details on this subject).
For many of us, third party apps are a choice or a preference, but they are an absolute necessity for the visually impaired. We are of the opinion that
pricing these apps out of existence before their own app is WCAG compliant is nothing short of passive discrimination. The mod team of
HPSlashFic, and many others, feel that July 1st is an unrealistic timeline to make all the changes necessary to make their App accessible. At this point, the only reasonable course of action is for Reddit to publish a public list of key results that they are committed to addressing, and guarantee that third party functionality will be left unchanged until they do.
Frankly, disabled individuals are often expected to pay a premium for the same basic things everyone else uses and enjoys for free. Visually impaired Redditors
deserve equal access, and even if third party apps survive, they will not receive it. Those users will not have access to all of the content and features that the rest of Reddit will. Remember, NSFW content will be
unavailable to regular users on third party apps, and yes, disabled people like porn too!
So what does all this mean for HPSlashFic Some of our Mod team do use third party apps, both for casual browsing and for moderation. Others donโt. For us, this is not just about our personal preferences; it is about standing in opposition to ableism and making sure others have a voice.
HPSlashFic has decided to join the blackout on June 12th. We are prepared to remain blacked out for a
minimum of 48 hours. This means that no one will be able to access any of our content until the blackout is over. In standing up for the voices of others, however, we donโt want to strip away the voices of our community. So now we want to hear from
you.
If you support us in this decision, please share and upvote this post, and comment with your support. - When will we come back? - We aren't sure at this time. After 48hrs we will reassess the situation and come to an agreement. We are deeply grateful for the support of our community in this -- many of you told us to black out as long as is necessary, and we cannot tell you how much this means to us.
- How will I know when HPSlashFic is coming back? - We will be transparent in ModCoord to make our position known. Likewise, if we feel it necessary to temporarily open the sub up to make another announcement, we will!
- I want to help! - If you want to help, spread the word! You can also join us in not using Reddit for the 12-14th, and check in at ModCoord for the status of the protest!

2023.06.10 23:23 LIS1050010 An A-Z of incredible uses for everyday things
Did you know you can kill weeds with vodka? Remove stains on clothes with aspirin? Make jewellery gleam with tomato ketchup? Here are 40 surprising tips to save you time and money
and for ... aluminium cans To create a simple Chinese lantern, mark two lines around a clean empty can, about 2.5cm from the top and bottom. With a sharp craft knife, make vertical cuts about 1.5cm apart between the lines. Make a cut across the bottom of two adjacent strips to make an opening for a candle. Gently press down on the can to make the strips bend in the middle. Insert a tea-light through the opening, then tuck the cut ends of the opening strips inside the can. Finally attach a hanging loop. You can spray-paint the can before cutting it if you like.
and for ... apples If you've been heavy-handed with the salt shaker when cooking a soup or stew, simply drop a few apple (or potato) wedges into the pan. After cooking for another 10 minutes or so, remove the wedges, which will have absorbed the excess salt.
and for ... aspirin Before giving up hope of removing a stubborn perspiration stain from a shirt, try this. Crush two aspirins and mix the powder in 100ml warm water. Soak the stained part of the garment in the solution for two to three hours.
B is for ... bread You can remove most dirty or greasy fingerprints from painted walls by rubbing the area with a slice of white bread. Bread does a good job of cleaning nonwashable wallpaper as well. First cut off the crusts to minimise the chance of scratching the paper.
and for ... baby oil Buff up a dull-looking stainless steel sink by rubbing it down with a few drops of baby oil on a soft clean cloth. Rub dry with a towel and repeat if necessary. This is also a terrific way to remove stains on the chrome trim of kitchen appliances and bathroom fixtures.
and for ... bicarbonate of soda Even the smelliest shoe or trainer is no match for the power of bicarbonate of soda. Liberally sprinkle powder in the offending loafer or laceup and let it sit overnight. Discard the powder in the morning. (Be careful with leather shoes as repeated applications can dry them out.)
C is for ... crayons Crayons make an excellent filler for small gouges or holes in resilient flooring. Select a colour that closely matches the floor. Melt the crayon in the microwave on medium power over a piece of greaseproof paper, until you have a pliant glob of colour. With a plastic or putty knife, fill the hole. You can use a softened crayon to cover even quite deep scratches on wooden furniture.
and for ... carpet remnants Place a series of carpet offcuts upside down and cover them with bark mulch or straw for a weed-free garden path. Use smaller scraps as mulch around your vegetable garden.
and for ... coffee grounds They're full of nutrients that acid-loving plants crave. Save them to fertilise rose bushes, azaleas, rhododendrons, evergreens and camellias. It's better to use grounds from a drip coffeemaker than the boiled grounds from a percolator as the drip grounds are richer in nitrogen.
and for ... compact discs Use them as garden/driveway reflectors. Drill small holes into a CD and screw it ito a gatepost or stake. Install several of them to mark out a night-time path to your front door.
and for ... correction fluid Dab small nicks on household appliances with correction fluid. Once it dries, cover your repair with clear nail polish for protection.
D is for ... dental floss Secure a button permanently with dental floss - it's much stronger than thread. Make hardwearing repairs to outdoor items. Because dental floss is resilient but fine, it is an ideal replacement for thread when you are repairing an umbrella, tent or rucksack.
E is for ... emery board If a favourite pair of suede shoes have become stained and tired, an emery board can revive them. Rub the stain lightly with the emery board, and then hold the shoe over the steam from a kettle to remove the stain. This technique will work for suede clothing too.
F is for ... fabric softener End clinging dust on the TV. To eliminate the static that attracts dust, dampen a duster with a little fabric softener straight from the bottle.
and for ... freezers Place candles in the freezer for at least two hours before burning. They will last longer.
G is for ... golfing equipment If a screw won't grip because its hole has become too large, dip the tip of a golf tee in wood glue and tap the tee into the hole. Cut the tee flush with a craft knife. When the glue dries, you can drill a new pilot hole in the same spot.
H is for ... hairspray To keep a child's priceless work of art at its very best before you put it on the pinboard or fridge door, preserve it with hairspray to help it last longer. This works especially well on unstable chalk or pastel pictures as it stops them from getting smudged so easily.
I is for ... ice cube trays Here's what to do with a half-drunk bottle of red or white wine. Freeze the wine into cubes that can be used later in pasta sauces, casseroles or stews.
and for ... ice cubes If you're putting sealant around the bath, run an ice cube over it to get a nice even bead - it will never stick.
J is for ... jars If you've taken a break from gardening, help your gloves dry out by pulling each one over the bottom of an empty jar. Stand the jar upside down on a radiator or hot-air vent. Warm air will fill the jar and dry damp clothing in an instant.
K is for ... ketchup Keeps silver jewellery sparkling. Soak it in a small bowl of ketchup for a few minutes. If it has a tooled or detailed surface, use an old toothbrush to work ketchup into the crevices. To avoid damaging the silver, don't leave the ketchup on longer than necessary. Rinse and dry.
L is for ... lemons Get rid of tough stains on marble. Cut a lemon in half, dip the exposed flesh in some table salt and rub it vigorously on the stain. You will be amazed how well it works.
and for ... ladders A straight ladder or front part of a stepladder makes a shallow planter with ready-made sections that look appealing filled with annuals, herbs or salad greens. After a couple of years of contact with soil, a wooden ladder will decompose.
M is for ... milk cartons Keep drinks cold at a barbecue or party with ice blocks made from empty milk cartons. Rinse them, fill them with water and put them in the freezer. Peel away the container when you're ready to put them in the punch bowl. If you intend to use them as cooler blocks, leave the container in place.
N is for ... nail varnish Preserve the important information on labels with a coat of clear varnish. Keep a shirt in good shape by putting a drop of clear varnish on the thread in the buttons. It prevents fraying and loss of buttons.
and for ... newspaper Slow-ripen tomatoes that are still on the vine in autumn. Wrap each one in a couple of sheets of newspaper and then store them in airtight containers inside a dark cabinet or cupboard at room temperature. Check each one every three or four days; they will eventually ripen to perfection.
O is for ... olive oil Make your own furniture polish. Combine two parts olive oil with one part lemon juice or white vinegar in a clean recycled spray bottle, shake it up and squirt it on. Leave the mixture on for a minute or two, then wipe off with a clean cloth or paper towel. If you're in a hurry, apply olive oil straight from the bottle on to a paper towel. Wipe off any oil that remains with another towel.
and for ... oatmeal Add luxury to a regular bath. All you need is 200g oatmeal and your favourite scented oil. Grind the oatmeal in a blender, put it in a cheesecloth bag, add a few drops of scent and suspend the bag under the running water as you fill your bathtub.
and for ... oven cleaner To remove paint or varnish from wooden or metal furniture, try oven cleaner. It costs less than commercial strippers and is easier to apply (if you spray it). After applying, scrub off the old paint with a wire brush. Neutralise the stripped surface with vinegar, then wash it off with water. Allow to dry. Warning: never use oven cleaner on antique or expensive furnishings - it may darken wood or discolour metal.
P is for ... plastic bottles Create a drip irrigator for plants. Cut a large hole in the bottom of a bottle, then drill two to five tiny (1.5mm) holes in or around the cap. Bury the closed bottles upside down about three-quarters submerged beneath the soil near the plants you need to water, and fill with water through the hole on top. Refill as needed.
R is for ... rubber flip-flops Slip a rubber flip-flop on to your hand and rub carpets and rugs in the direction of the pile. Any pet hair will form into balls that can then be vacuumed up. This works well on upholstery, too, including car seats.
S is for ... sand Fill a large bucket with builder's sand and pour in about a litre of clean motor oil. Plunge spades, hoes, rakes and other tools into the sand a few times to clean and lubricate them. To prevent rust, you can leave the tool blades in the sand for storage.
and for ... salt Watermarks from damp glasses or bottles left on a wooden surface are unattractive. Make them disappear by mixing one teaspoon of salt with a few drops of water to form a paste. Gently rub the paste on to the ring with a soft cloth or sponge until the spot is gone. Restore the lustre with furniture polish.
T is for ... tennis balls Give yourself a relaxing and therapeutic back massage: fill a long tube-shaped sock with a few tennis balls, tie the end and stretch the massager around your back as you would a towel after a shower.
and for ... tights To find lost small objects, cut the leg off an old pair of tights, making sure the toe is intact and pull it over the nozzle of the vacuum cleaner hose. Secure with a rubber band. Turn on the vacuum and you will soon find your valuable attached to your homemade filter.
U is for ... umbrellas Make an instant trellis. Remove the fabric from an old umbrella and insert the handle into the ground to support climbing vines such as clematis. The umbrella's shape, covered with flowers, will look terrific in the garden.
V is for ... vodka For a quick and easy weedkiller, mix 30ml vodka, a few drops of washing-up liquid and 400ml water in a spray bottle. Apply at midday on a sunny day to weeds growing in direct sunlight because alcohol breaks down the waxy cuticle covering on leaves, leaving them susceptible to dehydration. It won't work in shady spots.
is for ... WD40 For fast relief from a bee or wasp sting, spray WD-40 directly on the bite. It will soothe the pain at once.
Y is for ... yoghurt Put 200ml plain active-culture yoghurt into a blender, along with a handful of moss and about 200ml water. Blend for about 30 seconds. Use a paintbrush to spread the mixture wherever you want moss to grow - between the cracks of a stone path, on the sides of flowerpots - as long as the spot is cool and shady. Keep misting the moss with water until it is established.
Z is for . . . zips Ever lost your car keys in the sand at the seaside? Stitch a small zipped pocket to one corner of the underside of your beach towel, just big enough for keys, sunglasses and maybe a few coins.
And if you're feeling really bold ... Four bizarre problem-solving suggestions
ยท If you want to post a fragile item to a friend, wrap the item in disposable nappies before sealing the package. You can be sure your gift will arrive in one piece.
ยท To get chewing gum out of hair, apply some peanut butter to the matted gum and hair and rub the gum until it comes out. Your child's hair may smell like peanut butter until you wash it, but it is a better solution than having to cut the gum out.
ยท Wash lettuce in a washing machine. If you are expecting lots of people for lunch, place one pillowcase inside another. Fill the inside case with lettuce leaves. Close with string or a rubber band and throw in the washing machine. Now run the rinse and spin cycle.
ยท Get the comfort of a salon treatment when giving yourself a home pedicure. Just place marshmallows between your toes to separate them before you apply nail polish.

Hello everyone, Iโm new to this thread and have never posted anything, but Iโm feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and helpless recently due to the amount of credit card debt I have collected over about 5-6 different cards. I know Iโve screwed up, so being lectured is not what I came here for (just throwing that out there). COVID happened and then my wife and I started a new business together which made things very tight for us, resulting in us putting bills and everything else onto these cards and only paying the minimum (yes, I knowโฆ). We had no choice.
Now these cards have accumulated $30k (yes, I knowโฆ) in balances that are going to collections. I had already accepted the fact months ago that they would go to collections. The only collection agency that has contacted me via mail is TSI. Obviously there will be more to come. I donโt know if a consolidation loan is possible due to my credit being absolutely destroyed over the last year+.
I have a few questions/concerns that I hope you lovely folks can help me with. 1) How negotiable is the debt amount with these collection agencies, if at all? For example, one card has a $3,700 balance and Iโm wondering what an agency would settle with on average. 2) Do these agencies ever offer any sort of payment plans? 3) This is the one that worries me most, will these agencies literally pull funds from my bank account after a certain amount of time? 4) Is bankruptcy even an option for me? I have no idea how that process would work or what it would cost, and if Iโd be able to keep my bank account open afterwards. 5) This is not a question, but Iโm scared. Iโm anxious and quite terrified of all of this. Like I have an entity hovering over me just waiting to take money out of my bank account no questions asked.
I know this post is long, so I hope at least someone here can help with my questions and anxiety and offer some hope for me. I feel lost and lonely and honestly like I could cry (30yr old male here). Thank you all for reading.
