2023.03.27 15:13 RoughNightComing Question about German culture: Do guys and their guy friends ever just feel the need to start wrestling each other?

The mods at Germany removed this without explanation so I guess I'm coming here hoping for any insight at all.
I am 100% serious here. A question for the gentleman. Growing up, did you and your guy friends ever just get together to "wrestle". Like wrassle around on the floor or whatever? Is it a bonding ritual among German young men?
For context. I worked at a company a number of years ago that was failing and the parent company (located in Germany) sent over a number of German staff to assist with the decommissioning process. One of the staff members was a 19 year old (male) Bavarian work-exchange student. For reference, I'm a mid-30s overweight engineer.
The kid was odd. He had never learned how to use a paint brush. He needed my help washing out his cup with soap and water. Claimed to be an Excel expert but didn't know how to format a cell. Most shockingly, he asked me recommend a comedy movie to watch and I said try Adam Sandler. He came in the next day and said he made it 10 minutes into the movie but turned it off when he found out Adam Sandler was a ___. I'll let you guess the blank. I thought everyone was over that.
Anyway, I think he came with some financial backing from his family. He lived pretty far away from the workplace so he always had to taxi or Uber to work. On occasion, he'd offer to buy people dinner (a shawarma or donair) if they'd drive him home. The gas to drive my personal car there and back was less than the cost of the food and the food was less than the cost of a taxi so it worked out for everyone.
One time, we're walking side by down the parking lot towards the restaurant and he says "Oh, I was wondering. Perhaps tonight after dinner, you and I could wrestle?" I paused, totally confused, and just responded "No." The conversation continued as if nothing happened.
I went home that night and just convinced myself that it didn't happen. I imagined it or dreamed it up or it just ... anything else except what had actually happened. A couple weeks past, he wanted another ride. Then when I dropped him off, he asked me AGAIN if I wanted to come in an wrestle with him. OK, I guess it actually did happen. "Nah, I'm good."
Does anyone have any insight into this at all? Occam's Razor?

2023.03.27 15:11 lionsatn17 Car was towed by mistake

My girlfriend is in a new apartment complex in Noda and was towed last night. The garage she parks in is only 10% full as well, this complex is new. She clearly had her permit displayed, but was towed by Charlotte towing and parking. The apartment complex and towing company said she is at fault.
Any advice on how we can fight this?
She also went to pick it up and the company refused to let her pay with a card. Said she looks like someone who would dispute a charge. Is this not profiling and are you allowed to deny a form of payment? This whole thing seemed extremely predatorial and wrong.

2023.03.27 15:09 Rowboat8888 Housing market in Indy?

Hi all, My wife and I are looking to move out of where we are because we can't afford to upsize for our budding family here. We've looked at a few cities that seemed affordable only to find out that realtors are purposely posting listings below market value to trigger insane bidding wars on houses that go for $50-100k over listed price, no inspections allowed, cash only, dozens of offers, etc. Realtors in those cities told us we'd have to buy sight unseen because there isn't time for tours/walk-throughs without having it snatched from under you. Wondering what the market is like in Indy in some of the nicer areas. Not 100% sure of neighborhoods but were thinking maybe around Butler-Tarkington / Meridian Park? Similar neighborhoods if you got 'em. Not very familiar with Indy.

2023.03.27 15:07 JokaiItsFire Potential policies of a social libertarian political party (comment—>post)

Philosophy and constitutional policy:

Primary principle of any government should be upholding human dignity.
Human rights are inherent to individuals, not granted. Any violation of a right has to be sharply evaluated. There need to be clear boundaries to in which cases libverty might be restricted. In general, we should uphold the principle that even the best ends don‘t justify all means.
I would support the following changes to the German constitution:
Article 2 (personal liberty, life, bodily integrity): Forbid the existence of victimless crimes; forbid direct violations of bodily autonomy (such as vaccine mandates)
Article 5 (free speech): recognize freedom of speech as an absolute right
Article 11 (freedom of movement): remove some restrictions of it; explicitly state the right to leave the country within the article
Article 12 (+12a) (freedom of profession / mandatory (military) service (MMS)): Remove the options for mandatory service (except if ruled by a court as an alternative to imprisonment) and article 12a (MMS; currently out of effect in Germany, but since the debate is brought up again from time to time, the option for it should be removed fro the constitution)
Remove article 17a, restricting the right to petition of people who serve in MMS
Remove article 18, stating that rights can be lost if used to fight against liberal democracy. As rights are inherent, not granted, they can‘t be lost.
Explicitly state the criteria for when a right may be restricted in article 19, namely if the restriction
In practice, this code is already in use, but it doesnt hurt to explicitly mention it in the constitution.
Remove some of the extended governemnt competences in the case of a national emergency
There should be an option to leave the social contract

Economic policy:

Introduce a universal basic income (UBI)
Gradually transform the welfare state in the direction of a UBI as long as it hasn‘t been introduced (unemployement benefits without sanctions, minimum pensions, partial UBI for children, money raised by the carbon certificate system distributed as a citizen‘s dividend, etc.)
Introduce a land value tax
Also tax natural resources and pollution
Allow public transportation providers to invest in areas experiencing a rise in land value due to improved public transportation infrastructure, not only incentivizing further investments, but also cutting costs of transportation.
Cut all subsidies that hurt the environment; in the long term, cut as many subsidies as possible
Increase both private (for example using tax cuts) and public investments in green and digital infrastructure; provide incentives for automatization
Keep (or introduce) a universal healthcare system (it‘s far cheaper than whatever the US has and isn‘t really a point of discussion in other western countries)
The government should act according to Ordoliberalism rather than Keynesianism
Provide a stable economic playing field based on the principles of competition (companies shouldn’t be allowed to form monopolies) and informed consumers (companies shouldn‘t be allowed to lie about their products)
Improve payment and working conditions of people working in the care sector
Drastically reduce bureaucracy
Reform zoning; cut most regulations
Reform occupational licensing (abolish it for a good number of professions)
Reform intellectual property; restrict or abolish patents
Αbolish unnecessary regulations
Expand free trade (human rights abuses along the supply chain should be met with a supply chain law, not with general trade restrictions)

Environmental policy

Climate neutrality should be reached by 2035 ideally and until 2040 in any case
Phase-out of coal energy until 2030
Phase- out of oil and gas until 2035 (ideally, until 2040 in any case)
Introduce a (global, ideally) carbon certificate cap and trade system that covers all produced emmissions, regardless of the sector they were produced in
Abolish all regulations restricting investments in and construction of renewable energy power plants
Create incentives for private investments in PV or green heating mechanisms (for example, if you produce electricity using a PV module, don‘t use all of it and then sell the rest to the enrgy provider, the amount of energy you provided should just be deduced from the amount of energy you consumed instead of making it a bureaucratic nightmare)
reallow production of nuclear energy (stop the phase-out in theory, although I am not sure if it isn‘t too late for that now)
Improving the national park system
Protect moors and (parts of) the sea
Reduce regulations on food (a banana doesn‘t need to be curved in a specific angle)
phase-out factory farming until 2035 and increase animal wellbeing-standards

Social policy

Decrease surveillance
Abolish police controls without suspicion and racial profiling
Increase transparency, especially regarding lobbying
Introduce the freedom of information act in other countries
Liberalize immigration
Voting reform: introduce a multi-party voting system, if that isn‘t already the case (looking at you, USA); if there is a system of proportional representation, all seats should be given to the parties according to the popular votes they received. If there is a hurdle to enter the parliament (for example, 5%) it should be possible to nominate an additional party that receives one‘s vote should the originally preferred option fail to enter the parliament
After their time in politics, politicians shouldn‘t be able to take on a new job in the economy for another five years
“positive discrimination“ doesn‘t exist. There should be no affirmative actions, quotas, etc.
Humans should be regarded as individuals rather than members of a group; identity politics should be ignored
Legalize all drugs
Legalize wild camping
In general, legalize all victimless crimes, such as driving without a seatbelt
In the case of another pandemic, there should be less harsh regulations. There shouldn‘t be lockdowns, for example.
Legalize assisted death
No censorship (obviously including the internet)
Innocence until proven guilty in any case
There should be no maximum amount for cash payments
Legalize flag burning, insult, blasphemy and hate speech
Ban medically unnecessary permanent alteration of the body of children who are unable to consent to it (also obligate medical facilities to inform patients about possible milder solutions than an operation)

Miscellaneous:

Expand research in the areas of astronomy, physics, health, carbon capture tachnologies, nuclear fusion, climate-friendly air travel and renewable energy
Construction of a space-tether
Build-up of a free, digital library of hight-quality learning content for many different areas, both supporting school education and helping adults to further educate themselves
Government-financed research should be easily available for free

2023.03.27 15:06 ThisIsThieriot The importance of gender expression

Recently I was watching a video of a trans woman reacting to a guy going on an amusement park with a friend. Basically, the establishment was giving free admission to women in celebration of women's month, so the friend, who is a cis man, went wearing a dress to pass himself off as a trans woman in order to gain entry.
From my point of view, I think this has more to do with gender expression than with how the person identifies. Because, like, a person appears with a beard, a deep voice, hair all over the body, but then it's called a woman, I can't say if it's a real trans woman or if it's just a guy pretending to be trans, you know what i mean? In the same way as the issue of the bathroom, for example: a person with male expressions on their body enters the women's bathroom, the women inside cannot know if it is really a woman or a psychopathic guy wanting to take advantage , you know? That is, in my opinion, in these cases, the gender expression that the person has is important, because other people need to be sure that it is, in fact, a woman - being cis or trans.
In other words, I particularly think that a person with a COMPLETELY masculine expression, but who is only wearing a feminine outfit, should not enter for free in the amusement park, because we do not have this confirmation, on the part of gender expression, of the gender that the person identifies, therefore, we cannot say if it is a woman or not.
Anyway, this is my opinion and I really wanted to hear from trans people their opinions. I'm here to learn and I'm 100% open to changing my view so if I'm wrong, please explain, but kindly please.

2023.03.27 15:06 tables_04 My band director is failing me because I’m in a wheelchair?

I suffered a hip injury during the first week of the start of spring semester, leaving me in a wheelchair. I’m a percussionist, and our band room has stairs.
My director is not giving me parts, so I park my chair at the bottom of the stairs everyday during class and use that time to get caught up/organized, so sorta like a study hall.
Today is the first day back from spring break. And I checked, and my grade is sitting at a D. I’ve made sure to attend all the concerts I’ve been unable to preform in. I’ve also offered to help in any way I can.
My director was pretty good navigating my disability when I was in marching band last year. However something flipped and they’ve become unwilling to deal with anyone except their favorites in our band program.
I’m headed off to college next year, but my director killed my love for band.

Why does it feel like Allosaurus is THE main dino of the Jurassic World trilogy
I've rewatch the Jurassic World trilogy and even though the dinosaur antagonist are mostly hybrids and there's also the Giganotosaurus, it feels like the franchise "speaks" more of Allosaurus in the movies, tv show, video games, and also toys. It's like almost every moments there's always idea of including that dinosaur into the discussion. The Jurassic Park has the color red which fits the image of the T-Rex itself whereas the blue color from the JW kinda fits to Allosaurus (although it's probably also for Blue). Even though the Allosaurus is a side character, it sure has a lot of screen time. Just sharing my thought. What do you guys think?

What you should do If your Semi-Truck Breaks Down on the Road

Semi Truck Repair Service
If your semi-truck breaks down on the road, the first thing you should do is find a safe place to park it and turn on your hazard lights. Then, you can search for truck repair services near you, such as tire repair, trailer repair, and reefer repair, using keywords like "truck repair service near me" or "tire repair near me" on your smartphone or other devices. If your truck requires towing, you can search for 24-hour emergency towing services or towing services near you using keywords like "24-hour towing service" or "emergency towing service." It's crucial to have a plan in place for such emergencies and to act quickly to minimize the impact on your schedule and business operations.

Spook Hill is a gravity hill located in Lake Wales, Florida. A gravity hill, also known as a magnetic hill, is a place where the layout of the surrounding land creates an optical illusion that makes a slight downhill slope appear to be an uphill slope. In other words, if you were to park your car on Spook Hill and shift it into neutral, your car would appear to roll uphill instead of down.
The legend behind Spook Hill is that it is haunted by the spirit of a Native American chief who died in a battle with early settlers. The chief is said to be pushing cars uphill in an attempt to protect his land from the invading settlers. There are markers on the hill that explain the legend and provide instructions on how to experience the gravitational anomaly.
Spook Hill has become a popular tourist attraction in Florida, with visitors coming from all over the world to experience the strange phenomenon. The City of Lake Wales has even designated a small park at the base of the hill for visitors to park and experience the illusion.

The Cosmos Mystery Area is a tourist attraction located in the Black Hills of South Dakota, United States. It is known for its mysterious optical and gravitational effects that appear to defy the laws of physics.
The area was discovered in 1952 by two college students who noticed that their compasses and levels didn't work correctly in a certain area. The land was later developed into a tourist attraction in the 1970s.
Visitors to the Cosmos Mystery Area can experience a number of optical illusions and peculiarities that seem to defy logic. For example, visitors can stand at an angle and appear to be standing upright, or water can flow uphill. Balls can also roll uphill, and chairs can appear to balance on two legs.
The cause of these strange effects is still a mystery, although some theories suggest that it may be due to the unusual mineral composition of the rocks in the area or a gravitational anomaly. However, there is no scientific consensus on the cause.

Hoover Dam is a large concrete arch-gravity dam situated on the Colorado River, straddling the border between the U.S. states of Arizona and Nevada. It was built during the Great Depression between 1931 and 1936, with the primary purpose of providing hydroelectric power to the southwestern United States and controlling flooding along the Colorado River.
The dam was named after Herbert Hoover, who was the President of the United States when the construction of the dam was authorized. It was designed by a team of engineers and architects, led by John L. Savage and Frank Crowe.
Hoover Dam stands at 726 feet (221 meters) tall and spans 1,244 feet (379 meters) across the Colorado River. At the time of its construction, it was the world's largest concrete structure and the world's largest hydroelectric power plant. It has a capacity of 2,080 megawatts of electricity and provides power to about 1.3 million people.
The construction of Hoover Dam was a major engineering feat and involved the use of innovative techniques for the time, such as the use of a continuous pour of concrete, which required the construction of a special cooling system to prevent the concrete from overheating and cracking.
Today, Hoover Dam is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the United States, drawing millions of visitors every year. In addition to providing power and controlling flooding, the dam also serves as a major source of irrigation for the surrounding area, allowing for the cultivation of crops in what would otherwise be a dry and arid desert region.

Magnetic Hill is a popular tourist destination in India located near Leh in the northern part of the country, in the region of Ladakh. It is also known as the Gravity Hill and is famous for its unique gravitational pull, which appears to defy the laws of physics.
The Magnetic Hill is situated on the Leh-Kargil-Baltic National Highway, at an elevation of 14,000 feet above sea level. The hill is famous because of the optical illusion it creates - the layout of the surrounding land produces an optical illusion, making the uphill slope appear to be downhill. As a result, when a car is parked on the road and the engine is turned off, it seems to roll uphill, defying gravity.
This phenomenon is believed to be the result of the strong magnetic force present in the hill that pulls vehicles towards it. However, some skeptics argue that it is just an optical illusion and that the slope of the hill is actually downhill.

The Mystery Spot is a popular tourist attraction located in the redwood forests of Santa Cruz, California, USA. It is known for its unusual gravitational and optical illusions, where visitors can experience strange phenomenon that seem to defy the laws of physics.
The Mystery Spot was discovered in 1939 by a group of surveyors who noticed a peculiar area where their equipment was behaving oddly. The spot was opened to the public in 1940, and has been attracting curious visitors ever since.
The main attraction of the Mystery Spot is a cabin built on a sloping hillside, where visitors can witness strange occurrences such as balls rolling uphill, people standing at impossible angles, and heights appearing to change. The cabin and surrounding area are designed to make visitors feel disoriented and off-balance, as if gravity is not working as it should…

The Reverse Waterfall in Maharashtra, India is a unique natural phenomenon that occurs during the monsoon season. It is located in the region of Amboli, which is a hill station situated in the Western Ghats mountain range.
During the monsoon season, the hills and forests of Amboli receive heavy rainfall, which results in the formation of numerous waterfalls. However, the Reverse Waterfall is a special waterfall that flows in the opposite direction to that of a typical waterfall.
The Reverse Waterfall is formed due to the strong winds that blow towards the waterfall during the monsoon season. These winds are so powerful that they push the waterfall's stream back up into the air, creating a reverse waterfall effect….

I called the dealer and they said they don't have a resolution yet. I have an appointment today at 12:30 and was wondering if I'm just wasting my time there. They said they would take a look at it. 2023.03.27 15:00 ragingseaturtle Anyone use the Hydrawise app

I couldn't figure this app out last year. It did not seem like it was watering enough and my lawn in July got absolutely torched by the heatwave we had in NJ. Then eventually it seemed like it was over watering because I got red vine like fungus all over one area.
What the hell do I pick? Time based? Smart (et) or virtual solar sync? The last two I have no idea still what they mean as smart would still water during rain and wouldn't rain when it was extra hot. I'm just so confused going on year 3 of this app and don't want to torch my lawn again.
