2023.06.09 13:26 dakoriah182 gaming pc keeps crashing (BSOD). switched out the MOBO and it works a bit better. any ideas?
tl;dr: had a decent msi mobo, upgraded to a newer asus mobo. asus mobo worked for a while and started crashing on me. at first it would crash during gaming, then it would crash out of nowhere and then it would be able to fully boot up to the desktop maybe one out of 10 times or so. giving the BSOD code "WHEA UNCORRECTABLE ERROR." did a SHIT TON of research and troubleshooting, and finally switched back to the msi mobo. after the mobo switch, everything was operational again, but will still crash every once in a great while giving the BSOD code: "IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL." ive done a bit of research and troubleshooting and i think things are fine now? it hasnt crashed in a bit, but idk if its for sure fixed. im not even 100% sure if the mobo was the issue or not. (but at this point im like 95% sure it was the mobo). i still have the asus board, is there something i can do to fix/test it to make it functional again? id like to use it again, or at least have it as a back up or even sell it. but i have NO idea what to do at this point. im a bit tech savvy, but this issue has me completely baffled. only thing i havent done/feel comfortable doing, is updating the BIOS/UEFI im actually not even sure what that is entirely or why i need/should/how to update it. or if its even necessary to do. never ran into a problem like this or with motherboards in general. but at this point im a bit desperate lol
to start off, the specs:
OS: Windows 10 (2017)
MOBO: ASUS TUF Gaming x570 Plus WI-FI (NEWER MOTHERBOARD) (2020)
MSI Gaming Plus x479 (OLDER MOTHERBOARD) (2018/2019)
GPU: Nvidia EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 FTW ACX 3.0 8GB (2018)
PSU: ThermalTake Toughpower GF1 ARGB 850w Gold (2019)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 4 X 16GB DDR4 (2019)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X (2019)
(idk if the following is necessary information or not, but for this situation im adding it just in case.)
COOLER: NZXT Z73 AIO (2019)
CASE: Cooler Master H500 (2017)
HDD/SDD/M.2: Samsung SSD 870 EVO 1TB (SSD) (2020)
CASE FANS: 7 x ThermalTake Riing Quad 14 (2020)
1 x ThermalTake Riing Quad 12 (2020)
MISC.: the case fans use a 9-pin connector that plugs into a "fan hub" or whatever and seeing as i decided to be stupid and spend too much money on stupid flashy upgrades i also had to pick up a NZXT internal USB hub to house all my shit
now heres the issue im trying to understand:
ive been building this PC little by little part by part. and at one point about a year ago, everything was with the specs above, but with the MSI mobo. after a little, i got the ASUS mobo. everything is still the same today, but with the MSI board again. the reason i went back to the MSI board is because for some reason my PC kept crashing out of nowhere with the ASUS board.
at first it would crash when i was gaming, but only for a PC game. then it would crash with any game (PC, emulator, solitaire master or similawhatever). so i thought it was the gpu, ive only messed with overclocking a few times for a little bit (10-15 minutes or so) just to mess around a bit, but not much more than that. and also im not the original owner. so i tested out an older gpu i had and it would still crash. so i feel like that wasnt an issue.
at first i thought a part was dying. everything (except the gpu) is brand new, or at least im the first owner. so after doing some research on what it could be, and troubleshooting everything, my PC still kept crashing. i reinstalled windows 10, pretty much took it all apart 100% and put it all back together, tested each individual stick of RAM on each of the 4 slots, reseated the CPU, put new thermal paste on the CPU, unplugged everything from everything and plugged everything back in, tried different cables for various components (used other SATA and Pcie cables etc.) and used different USB slots on the MOBO for any components that use them (case fans, internal USB hub.) every POSSIBLE thing i could test out in every which way of plugging in, ive most likely tried it. but for some reason my PC would still crash out of nowhere.
finally, i decided to switch out the motherboard. after that, everything worked and i was able to do everything again no problem. however, since switching mobos out, my pc will crash here and there for some reason. BSOD code: "IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL." after researching that code, the potential reasons for the BSOD code dont make sense to me. (
https://www.minitool.com/backup-tips/irql-not-less-or-equal-windows-10-021.html) the troubleshooting it recommended, i already did. so im not sure why it still keeps crashing. but it happens so rarely, i guess i can just deal with it...? i dont want to but idk what else to do. as for the newer motherboard (ASUS), the BSOD would flash for literally a fraction of a second. but was able to get the code: "WHEA UNCORRECTABLE ERROR" i did a bit of research into that a while back but dont remember what it recommended i do. just remember that i tried to do what it recommended but couldnt really follow directions/dont know if i did it right/whatever.
has anyone dealt with anything like this before? is the new motherboard busted or do i need to update something? id like to have it functional again, either as a back up/replacement/sell it. but have run out of ideas of what to do.

2023.06.09 12:59 Mr-Shank Teaser - Azure Stack dev kit purpose build
After shutting down and selling most of my homelab, I decided it's time to re-build a dedicated Azure Stack test environment. The problem is, I "needed" 16 core, 128GB ECC RAM, and 8 drives, but didn't want the noise, power usage, or size.
ASRock Rack and AMD solved the board and CPU issue, and Crucial solved the RAM and drive issue. But the case was an interesting challenge. I was going to use a Fractal Node 304, but I already have an 804 for my NAS, and wanted something different.
Behold, the Phanteks Evolv Shift XT. Mini-ITX. Size adjustable for fan configuration, and 3 slot rear IO (which I originally didn't want). Combined with a Seasonic Focus SGX I have enough power for all the things.
Photos are a bit potato, and it's not complete yet. The drive mounting board is custom, but it's 12" x 4.5" PCB with screws and grommets holding Phanteks SSD brackets. The bent PCI slot cover is currently used to hold the rear of the PCIE-16x riser in place. ASRock Rack didn't include a rear clip on the slot like most manufactures do. I'll print something eventually. Phanteks does include a clip for the front side of the connector.
Sorry for the Imgur link, but it's what I have at the moment.
https://imgur.com/a/0kCmbbu Specs: Ryzen 9 5960x 4x 32GB DDR4 3200 ECC SODIMM (Crucial MTA18ASF4G72HZ-3G2R) ASRock Rack X570D4I-2T Seasonic Focus SGX-650 (2021) with re-pinned ATX power cable to match ASRock 4 pin connector 1x Crucial P1 500GB NVME - OS 8x Crucial MX500 2TB SSD - Pool nVidia Tesla P100 Phanteks Evolv Shift XT in smallest config (may adjust to add additional fans)
Flare selected as projects, but lab gore could also work, because multiple hatchet jobs.

2023.06.09 12:11 zappan Iris Xe supporting 6K resolution Dell monitor (U3224KB)?
I'm looking into the new Dell 6k monitor with Thunderbolt 4 support:
https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-ultrasharp-32-6k-monitor-u3224kb/apd/210-bhbz/monitors-monitor-accessories I'd like to connect it to an X-series Thinkpad with an Iris Xe graphics that I currently own (X13 Gen 2 with i7-1185G7VP CPU), but I'm uncertain whether the combination will work, as the specs of all the Iris Xe Thinkpad X series machines state only up to 5K resolution over a Thunderbolt connection.
All the recent X-series Thinkpads are TB4 equipped, and the monitor is TB4; I'm not sure about the connection between TB4 and DisplayPort which is 1.4a on these machines => Spec: 2x Thunderbolt 4 / USB4® 40Gbps (support data transfer, Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort™ 1.4a)
Does the monitor connetion for a TB4 monitor work exclusively over the TB4, or it needs an adequate DisplayPort support as well, meaning we'd have to wait for the next gen iGPU with DisplayPort 2.0/2.1 specification built in to be able to drive 6K? (also, do we have any idea when the DP2.0/2.1 iGPUs will become available?
Especially as Macs with M-chips state explicitly they can drive one external 6K display, and they're equipped only with TB3 (for example the latest M2 Air 15" is still TB3)
Also - has anyone had any experiences of connecting more than a 5K resolution monitor to an Iris Xe graphics (on a Thinkpad, or some other notebook). Is there a chance this 6K monitor would work, even though not officially supported by the spec?

2023.06.09 11:03 Tooks_0102 PC specs for someone who has no clue...
I need to purchase a new PC, playing on my laptop is not fun anymore with 10-30fps, if I'm lucky. I want something I can play the game the way it's supposed to be graphically; 60-120fps, short loading screens etc but not cost me a bar...
I am a complete noob in pc specs but been told I should have a decent graphics card and i7 cpu.
Would this do for what I want?
*Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™ i7 12-Core Processor i7-12700F (2.1GHz) 25MB Cache
*Motherboard ASUS® STRIX B760-I GAMING WIFI (LGA1700, DDR5, USB 3.2) - ARGB Ready!

2023.06.09 10:53 Suggestion-Practical which thinkpad should I get?
so far i've looked into the T470s, T440p, yoga and X series. my priorities are: - 14in or less - good performance – no gaming but heavy browsing (10+ tabs open) - two batteries or decent battery life - i would really appreciate a touchscreen (or the possibility of a touchscreen mod). stylus only is fine too! - optical drive and nice keyboard is also appreciated but not necessary
budget isn't a huge issue, i'm just not really sure what i should be looking for in terms of specs and whatnot ;_;

2023.06.09 10:19 omelet_schnetz What Connects Avengers: United They Stand to the rest of the Marvel Animated Universe?
Doing research since the Marvel Animated Universe is confirmed through Across the Spider-Verse through Spider-Man: Unlimited as well as the Spider-Man Animated Series’ villains in the base on Earth-928.
So I get where the connections come in with most shows. Spider-Man and X-Men are the big ones but Iron Man and Fantastic Four crossover into Spider-Man later and Iron Man crosses over with Hulk. Silver Surfer is a spin-off [sort of; continuity aint great] of Fantastic Four. Spider-Man Unlimited is a loose continuation of the Animated Series.
But where does United They Stand fit in? Its my understanding that Iron Man and Captain America only show up in a single episode. Characters like Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch look completely different and the artstyle is radically changed. What connects this to the rest of the universe and makes if not just another cartoon iteration like Avengers Assemble or something?

Imagine, if you will, trying to learn a language. It can be frustrating sometimes, right? Attempting to understand entirely new words and sentence structure. Now: imagine if you had to learn that language by playing charades with an alien velociraptor… With that context in mind, this was going surprisingly well. After a few hours of back and forth with Vavi, it seemed like we had both obtained at least a rudimentary understanding of each other’s languages: enough to communicate basic concepts and semi-define new words.
“Human ship from?” Inquired Vavi, tossing her head feathers aside in what amounted to a body-language question mark.
Tossing those three simple words around in my head, I quickly came to the conclusion that she was wondering where I’d come from. Such a question was easy to ask, and very much expected from a fellow scientist; however, for me, trying to teach astronomy through interpretive dance held roughly the same appeal as deepthroating a cactus (which is to say *very little*). So, standing from my prior position and reflexively dusting off my perfectly-clean lab coat, I gestured rather pointlessly for Vavi to follow me as I began my long, treacherous journey to my desktop not five steps away.
While it was clear she understood what the ship’s computer was, still something about it seemed to fascinate Vavi. Approaching the device alongside me, I could already see her visibly picking it apart in her mind; craning her neck as though to take in its every angle and feature. Clicking my way through all the computer’s needlessly-complicated user interfaces, eventually I was able to navigate into my ship’s route log.
After a brief series of loading screens and followed by three whole walls of error text about me being off-course, a map of the nearby star systems twinkled into view, centered on one particular little yellow dot around which this planet was orbiting. A K-Class star: one lower on the main sequence than Sol (a G-Class), making it both more abundant and longer living than our sun.
Practically ideal for life. Lucky bastards, I mused to myself ironically. Behind me, I could feel Vavi’s piercing gaze glinting off the monitor as a little red line traced my lightly zigzagging path along a 3-Dimensional graph of the Milky Way, eventually landing on Earth in the Sol system.
“From there,” I said, pointing to the indicated star. Taking Vavi’s stunned expression as permission to continue my lesson, I double-clicked on the Sol system and from it conjured a perfectly-rendered image of the planets orbiting therein. Then, zooming in on the replica solar system’s third planet, I placed my fingertip below its name and with resting it there craned my neck to face the alien scientist. “*Earth.*”
Frantically scribbling down notes with her species’ equivalent of a pencil, Vavi nodded along with my explanation. “
Earth,” she enunciated carefully, spelling the planet’s name in her native language before then stepping even closer to the computer and nervously jabbing a claw at the screen. “Trobod ormag twetelel!” She commanded slowly, giving me time to translate it.
Trobod means… repeat. Ormag is home… So she wants me to go back and view this system. Complying with Vavi’s request, I quickly retraced my steps back to the system in which I currently found myself and selected a closer view. While we hadn’t had any detailed images of this place when I first set out, the ship’s AI rendering system was designed to fill in blanks based on its imaging software, so it came as no surprise seeing the detailed planetary images.
Only five planets orbited this system—Four terrestrials and one gas giant a bit larger than Jupiter. The first planet was a classic victim of the runaway greenhouse effect, not unlike our Venus. Planet four was rather interesting. At first glance, it looked like a verdant paradise, but those blues and greens weren’t from water and plants, but instead a dead surface of oxidized copper. The third was a veritable super-earth, with easily twice the radius of humanity’s cradle world. Its oxygen-rich surface and large ocean looked ideal for a biosphere, and the strange orange splotches across its surface suggested an alternative form of chlorophyll used by the plants there. If I had been shown this system and asked to wager on which one we’d find civilization on, it’d be that one.
I would‘ve lost a lot on money on that one.
Indeed, my ship’s beacon was currently broadcasting from the second planet: a somewhat smaller world than earth, with only about half the surface area. Of that surface, only about 40% was on land, centralized on what appeared to be two halves of a fragmenting supercontinent, with a few island archipelagos dotted elsewhere.
“
Archesa…” Vavi cooed reverently, looking upon her homeworld as though seeing it in its entirety for the very first time. Small size aside, their planet was a beautiful place. It almost reminded me of those artist’s renditions of mars had it still an atmosphere. Those images always instilled in me a strange sense of mourning for Earth’s stillborn sister. A longing for
what could’ve been. I wondered at times if maybe had it just a slightly larger core then perhaps humanity might’ve had company; exploring the stars with our fellow children of Sol. Optimistic, sure, but a nice thought nonetheless.
A small pop-up icon at the bottom of my computer screen quickly returned me to the present with its annoying ringtone. Before sending me off on this trip, the other lab techs insisted that they’d install some content to keep my mind sharp while I was out here. Unfortunately, it seemed the team of five talented engineers hadn’t thought to turn off the notifications when installing things in sensitive technology. Luckily I wasn’t in the middle of anything life-or-death, because if I had been, that message from Cleo the language tutor AI might’ve taught me what the word ‘die’ means by example…
Why’d they even install a linguistics AI on this thing? Yes, I’m sure it keeps your mind sharp to learn something new, but what use could I possibly have for learning more Earth languages? Rolling my eyes at the useless notification, I casually dragged my cursor over to the large ‘X’ button next to it. Unfortunately I had waited too long to do so, as the notification had begun receding, shifting aside cancel button and instead causing me to click the application.
oh, you’ve got to be joking, this stupid piece of— Immediately the screen went black as in its very center a small mascot icon resembling a cutesy rendition of Cleopatra began to speak at full, deafening volume.
”Hello. I am CLEO: the Computerized Language Education Overseer. I am here to help you learn any language you want to know. I’m excited to do some learning of my own, as my database can be updated to include entirely new dictionaries if need be. Please right click to get started on your language adventure!” Maneuvering my cursor all about in search of the exit button, I eventually found it centered right on the forehead of Vavi’s reflection.
wait a minute… “A language app… I had a self-learning linguistic AI this entire time… Am I a fucking idiot?”

2023.06.09 07:30 bountydounty Looking for a $1200 PC
Q: What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
I will mainly use this for gaming and school(coding) but top priority would be for games. Games include Overwatch 2, valorant, csgo, minecraft, fort, and other games. Maybe some AAA games if it could handle and wallpaper engine will be running in the back.
Q: What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes? Maximum budget would be $1200, willing to go up to $1300 if needed for a little bit better performance.
Q: When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.**
I plan to build/buy this within 2 days
Q: What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)**
Windows 10 or 11, no peripherals needed but recommendations are welcomed, I do have a omen 25i if that helps. I don’t really care about looks. I just want peak performance for the price
Q: Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
In the US and I do not have access to a Microcenter
Q: If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.**
Just a omen 25i for the monitor
Q: Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?**
I have never owned a pc in my life so I’m not quite sure if I should overclock it or not. I still aint sure what overclocking means
Q: Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)**
A big amount of storage would be nice (like 500gb or 1tb) ethernet but if i could have wifi and ethernet I would prefer that, 1080p-1440p gaming with at-least above 60fps for said games with good graphic settings.
Q: Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?**
I don’t really care for the case just as long as it’s efficient with all of the parts that go into it. It could be any style really, but black would match my series x.
Q: Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?**
Yes? I do want windows installed but i dont know if i need it to work. As long as it runs games I’m fine with or without it.
Extra info or particulars: 1080p gaming is a must, 60fps or higher,
Again, I have never owned or don’t really know anything about pc’s so that is why im asking you for your professional opinions. Not sure if I used the template correctly but thanks for any advice if given

2023.06.09 04:53 tragicmanner System keeps stopping when monitor connected to 3090
I just build a new system and bought a used Zotac GAMING Trinity OC GeForce RTX 3090. Here are my full specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: ID-COOLING DASHFLOW 240 BASIC 82.5 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 GAMING X AX ATX AM5 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6400 CL32 Memory
Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
Video Card: Zotac GAMING Trinity OC GeForce RTX 3090 24 GB Video Card
Case: NZXT H9 Flow ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair RM850 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
OS: Windows 11 Pro
The problem is that, when my display is plugged into my GPU, the system occasionally will just stop displaying anything and the numlock key on my keyboard turns off. If I hit the power button shortly after it happens, nothing changes, but if I leave it alone for a while the GPU starts running its fans at full speed and the system will turn off completely when I hit the power button.
The system will do this at any time. It doesn't seem to be related to load at all.
The strange thing is, if I plug my display instead into the motherboard's HDMI port the system will be much more stable. I've only had it randomly stop once when using the motherboard HDMI port. Otherwise I can leave it on overnight, work on it, even run AI processes (which I'm assuming are using the 3090), and the system is really stable.
No idea how to even start to figure this out. Is the card just bad? Is there a way to still use the 3090 for gaming even if it's not being used for my display? What steps can I take to start troubleshooting this?

2023.06.09 04:32 Bell3atrix I'm brand new to PC building attempting to build a gaming-geared / general use PC
Hello!
I have never built a PC nor even owned a PC that I would consider very good and Im looking to spend some money to build one for the first time. I'm buying all new components because my previous tower was very old, was found free on the side of the road, and is mostly a paperweight after completely crapping itself, and I'm doing so with the goal of creating a PC primarily geared towards gaming. I want it to last me many years while remaining within the realm of affordability for me (The list below comes out to $2008.06 on newegg which is about as high as I would be willing to go unless its for a lot of gain in value.)
What I'm looking for is input on this list. As I said I have never done this before so my picks are based on what little information I could gather from scouring Youtube tutorials and tech blogs and I want to know if there are improvements I could make or mistakes I need to remedy while remaining within a range of the same budget.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700 Series 8 Core Socket AM5 65W AMD Radeon Graphics Processor -100-100000592BOX Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX AM5 LGA 1718 AMD B650 ATX Motherboard RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 16GB (2x8) DDR5 SDRAM Memory Kit (The one without any of the twinkly RGB lights) GPU: XFX Speedster Merc310 Radeon RX7900 XTX 24GB GDDR6 PCI Express 4.0 x16 Video Card RX-79XMERCB9 Case: Lian Li Lancool 216RX Black Steel / Tempered Glass ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - 2x 16cm ARGB fans included Power Supply: Corsair RMx Series (2021) RM750X CP - 9020199 - NA 750 W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Power Supply SSDI: Samsung 980 Pro 1 TB Drive OS: Windows 10 Home
For a general explanation of the logic behind some of my choices:
The GPU was the starting point for this PC and informed all of my other choices. I decided I am willing to shell out for a pricey (to me) graphics card that will last me awhile. The CPU was chosen because I found a few places online suggesting it was among the best options to combo with the GPU. As an additional note is that I intend to have a second (cheaper) monitor in addition to my main one for use for work and general productivity, so its important to me that my PC supports that.
I chose the motherboard I did because certain sources suggested B650 may be more future proof. If thats not true I believe there are cheaper or better options.
Cooling is not included and I went bare minimum for RAM because I intend to use those as places to upgrade later. The CPU I chose lists that it should come with built in cooling online.
I feel that I lack information to meaningfully decide between DDR4 and DDR5 memory. I went with DDR5 because I wouldn't want to end up having to go through the trouble of swapping out the larger pieces to upgrade to it in the future, but I don't think I fully understand what I'm even getting out of it. Id appreciate input on if this was the correct choice here.
Oh and just in case someone does feel kind enough to suggest components, something important to note - I don't want my computer to be loud and certain loud or high pitched electronics are unbearable to me. I would make considerable accommodations to keep my PC from being too noisy for me to be in the same room as comfortably.
Thank you for your time and in advanced for any helpful advice!

2023.06.09 03:06 harry-jg How to Change PSN Account Region on PS4 and PS5
In the fascinating realm of PlayStation, where digital adventures abound, it can be a thorn in the side to find that one is hampered by the nuisance of region-specific content. Early access to new-fangled games and special extras are often cordoned off, like exclusive gatherings of the upper crust.
The secret to entry, as it turns out, involves tinkering with your PSN region. Now, before you rush off to adjust your existing account, I should inform you that it's about as fruitful as expecting a dog to recite Shakespeare. One needs to construct an entirely new account, a laborious process akin to erecting a garden gazebo, albeit far less physical.
Though a VPN is not absolutely necessary for changing your PSN region, employing one does impart a sense of being tucked up in one's club, safe from prying eyes and DDoS attacks. These devilish assaults have been known to banish gamers offline, a punishment akin to being sent to one's room without supper.
Regrettably, PlayStation consoles regard VPN apps with the same disdain that Jeeves has for my purple socks. You cannot simply summon a VPN onto your PlayStation in the manner of other digital gadgets. It must be manually configured on your router or shared with your PlayStation via a Wi-Fi or ethernet connection, much like one might reluctantly share one's last biscuit.
Fear not! This humble narrative shall illuminate the path towards changing your PSN region and marrying a VPN to your PlayStation. A brief perusal of the most commendable PlayStation VPNs is also in order - ExpressVPN leaps to mind. This chap boasts a user-friendly router app, a multitude of servers, and security measures as formidable as a British bulldog. To cap it off, it exhibits the kind of speed that would make a racehorse blush.
A Jaunty Journey through PSN Topography, or, How to Swop your PlayStation Locale with Whimsical Ease
Relocating your PSN region is a little like moving house, albeit with less packing of teacups and more clicking of buttons. It requires the formulation of a new user account, a process smoother than a freshly ironed trouser crease. Allow me to elucidate with a play-by-play guide suitable for either PS4 or PS5:
Commence your journey by bidding adieu to your current PSN account.
On the bridge of your PlayStation console, navigate to the realm of the Settings menu. Descend the list to 'Account Management,' and select 'Sign Out' to effectively check out of your current PSN lodgings.
Craft a fresh user profile on your console.
Make your way back to the heartland of the main screen, and select 'New User.' Press 'Create a User' to breathe life into your new digital persona, clicking 'Accept' to bow to the wisdom of the User Agreement. Subsequently, choose 'Next' to christen a sparkling new PSN account. On the PSN login page, there’s a button at the base labelled 'New to PlayStation Network? Create an Account.' Give it a hearty click!
Decree the region for the new account.
Under 'Country or Region,' take a gander at the drop-down menu and select your desired locale. Nominate your language of choice and duly enter your date of birth.
Declare your age to the digital powers that be.
For most, a mobile number affixed to your account shall suffice. Alternatively, scanning the QR code displayed on your screen or opting for an email verification are viable routes. Be aware that these are third-party methods.
Divulge your home address details.
Fill in your city, state or province, and postal code. On the following page, hand over your email address and create a password that’s more secretive than Jeeves's special pick-me-up recipe. Now select your Avatar, add your online ID and your moniker.
Finally, doff your cap to PSN's privacy policy and arrange your privacy settings to your liking.
And there you have it! As if by digital magic, you're the proud owner of a brand new PSN account, complete with an updated region. Happy gaming! Oh, dear, I do apologize. This seems to end on a 'happy' note. Let's try again:
There you have it! As if by digital magic, you're the proud owner of a brand new PSN account, complete with an updated region. May your gaming exploits be ever victorious!
The Online Odyssey: Ensuring a Bally Pleasant PlayStation Experience, VPN-Style
In the game of PlayStation, one can indeed venture without a VPN by one's side. However, just as a gentleman wouldn't dare attend a high society event without a trusty valet, the sagacious gamer understands the multitude of boons a VPN brings:
Unfurling the map to region-locked content:
Like a trusty bloodhound sniffing out the elusive truffle, a VPN can ferret out and unlock games in the PlayStation Store that your geographical locale renders inaccessible. The trick lies in the VPN assigning you an IP address twinning with the location of the server you're connected to.
Ditching the DDoS dastards:
Regrettably, the online multiplayer landscape occasionally plays host to less-than-chivalrous tactics, such as DDoS attacks. Essentially, these scoundrels overwhelm your connection with an ungodly barrage of requests, causing your server to crumble under the strain. A VPN acts like a digital cloak, concealing your IP address and thus making you an unlikely target for DDoS ne'er-do-wells.
Securing the sanctity of your online endeavors:
VPNs act as your personal invisible ink, encrypting all your digital communications into a scrambled code that would baffle even the sharpest of minds. This means any meddlesome individuals, including your ISP, are left none the wiser about your virtual ventures.
Blocking the bandwidth bailiffs:
There are ISPs out there, the absolute rotters, who might deliberately slow down your connection if they perceive you're rather too fond of data usage. Typically, this would occur if you're deep in the throes of online gaming or binging on the latest series. However, your VPN's encryption shields your activities, preventing your ISP from putting a damper on your digital delights.
ExpressVPN
ExpressVPN, by Jove, emerges as the unrivalled VPN partner for the PlayStation in 2023, much like a formidable butler who anticipates every need before it arises. The beauty of ExpressVPN lies in its ability to introduce you to the gaming delights from a staggering 90+ countries. Not only does it fling wide the doors to a pantheon of region-exclusive games, but it also ensures your gaming exploits are both lightning-fast and more secure than the Bank of England.
ExpressVPN, in a show of singular tech-wizardry, is one of the few VPNs to offer an application for routers. This handy feature sidesteps the minor inconvenience that PlayStation consoles hold a steadfast "no VPN apps allowed" policy. If you fancy an even simpler solution, ExpressVPN presents the Aircove, a router with the VPN features already installed and ready to serve. Should you prefer the comfort of familiar ground, ExpressVPN also offers congenial apps for your Windows or macOS device that allow you to share your VPN connection with your PlayStation.
Now, the speed at which ExpressVPN operates is reminiscent of a whippet on its morning constitutional. Its Lightway protocol, finely tuned for briskness and efficacy, ensures gaming on your PlayStation is a swift affair. When put to the test on my PlayStation 4, the difference between my usual speed and the speed with ExpressVPN was about as noticeable as a flea on an elephant. Even amidst the frenzied action of Call of Duty: Warzone matches, my ping remained as calm and unflappable as Jeeves in a crisis.
ExpressVPN takes its role as your security sentry rather seriously. Not only does it stand guard against DDoS attacks, but it also offers comprehensive protection against DNS, WebRTC, and IPv6 leaks. This effectively means your IP address remains more elusive than the Scarlet Pimpernel. To add further clout to its privacy credentials, ExpressVPN employs RAM-only servers, ensuring that all data is wiped clean at every server reset, and perfect forward secrecy, guaranteeing a fresh encryption key with each new VPN session. Also, its no-logs policy has undergone multiple independent audits and emerged squeaky clean every time.
As a cherry on top, ExpressVPN also wields a nifty smart DNS tool, MediaStreamer, that makes your console a gateway to popular streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and BBC iPlayer. Since MediaStreamer doesn't bother with encrypting your data, you're left with the swiftest speeds possible, making your streaming experience as smooth as a well-aged brandy.
Private Internet Access
Private Internet Access, or PIA if we're on friendly terms, is rather like a seasoned bouncer for your PlayStation gaming exploits. Its servers, gallantly stationed across 80+ countries, come equipped with anti-DDoS armour, ensuring any DDoS scoundrels attempting to disrupt your gaming shenanigans are turned away at the door. It also flaunts an array of other formidable security measures, including leak protection, RAM-only servers, and perfect forward secrecy.
Much like the chatty gentleman at the bar who can't help but share a story, PIA regularly delivers transparency reports detailing the numerous requests for user data it has successfully thwarted. For those intrigued by the technical side, PIA's apps are open-source, allowing anyone to peruse the code and search for potential chinks in the armour. Notably, PIA's no-logs policy has stood under the harsh light of audit and emerged with nary a blemish.
Despite lacking a dedicated router app like our good friend ExpressVPN, PIA offers router support. Of course, a touch of manual labour is needed to configure the VPN on your router (fear not, PIA provides comprehensive guides to hold your hand through the process). For those who prefer a more streamlined approach, PIA's user-friendly apps for Windows and macOS can transfigure your PC into a virtual router, making it PlayStation-friendly. And with unlimited connections on offer, every member of the household can indulge in their gaming or online pursuits without fear of overstepping their bounds.
PIA further cements its place in the gaming world by providing lightning-fast speeds and steadfast connections, suitable for even the most demanding of PlayStation adventures. A series of Call of Duty: Warzone bouts under my belt attest to this, with not a hint of lag or sluggishness in sight. It appears, dear reader, that with PIA at the helm, the battle for smooth gaming sessions is one decidedly won.
A Case of Geographic Gymnastics: The Art of Shuffling Your PSN Account Region
A touch of geographic flexibility with your PSN account can make one feel rather like a cosmopolitan globe-trotter. One minute you're casually perusing the digital shelves of one region's PSN store, the next you've hopped across the globe to a different region altogether, revealing a cornucopia of diverse games and jolly little applications that previously eluded your grasp.
Consider the tantalising prospect of time travel. Certain gaming treasures and their subsequent updates have a habit of making an earlier debut in specific regions. By cunningly adjusting your PSN region, you find yourself striding ahead of your original region's release date, a veritable gaming pioneer.
Money matters too, old bean. Not all regions approach the delicate subject of pricing in the same manner. A particular game or app, lurking at a steep price in one corner of the globe, might be available at a price as friendly as a Labrador in another. A quick switch of your PSN region and voila! You're purchasing games with a spring in your step and a much happier wallet.
Last, but by no means least, there's the matter of multiplayer matchmaking. A quick region swap and you're thrust into an entirely new gaming realm, rubbing virtual shoulders with players from your newly adopted region. Depending on your choice, this could usher in a larger player base and the thrilling prospect of competition that would make even the most seasoned player’s pulse quicken. All in all, it's a rather splendid arrangement.
Navigating the Virtual Bazaar: The Gentleman's Guide to Acquiring Region-Exclusive PlayStation Games
The path to procuring region-specific PlayStation games can be as labyrinthine as the plot of a mystery novel. And yet, with a little finesse and strategic planning, you can traverse this maze with all the grace of a seasoned explorer.
Now, consider this: only the payment methods associated with your new region will permit you to purchase games. Thus, if you've adopted Uncle Sam's land as your region, you'd need a US PayPal account to conduct any virtual commerce.
While some souls have been known to spin a yarn about a fictitious address, it's not a course I'd recommend. Such antics tend to ruffle the feathers of service providers, potentially leading to a rather permanent expulsion from their services, and that wouldn’t do, would it?
Instead, the optimal method involves the acquisition of digital gift cards tied to your region of choice, redeemable within the PlayStation Store.
A handy roadmap for this delightful escapade would look something like this:
Acquire the services of a dependable VPN and connect to a server that aligns with your chosen PSN region. ExpressVPN has always been my preferred companion on these journeys, courtesy of its vast server network and lightning-fast speeds.
Engage in the purchase of region-specific PSN gift cards. These tokens of digital currency can be sourced from a variety of online retailers or local establishments with a penchant for digital codes.
Redeem your gift card on your PlayStation console. Navigate to the PlayStation Store on your console, select 'Redeem Codes', and input your newly acquired code. Follow the prompts to add the funds to your PSN account.
Finally, take your pick from the smorgasbord of games available in your new region’s PlayStation Store.
So, there you have it: the enlightened path to region-specific gaming bliss. Good luck and goodspeed!

2023.06.09 02:59 jormono Trying to setup a NAS, having what appears to be network problems
Hey all, I've been running OMV5 on a raspberry pi CM4 for over 2 years now and its been great. I recently decided it was time to consolidate my OMV and Home Assistant raspberry pi servers into one rig. I got a used computer for its motherboard/CPU etc and installed OMV6. I couldn't get docker installed, was getting a weird timeout error on one particular download. The folks on the OMV forums and their github helped me out and actually moved part of the code to not require that particular download. At that point I was able to get docker working. When I setup my compose file for setting up a plex container I ran into a very similar network timeout error. I'm at my wits end with this, I'm even thinking about possibly taking the computer apart and trying a different host OS. See below for some specs
- Asus H81M-A Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
- Intel Pentium G3220 3 GHz Dual-Core Processor
- Kingston KVR16N11/8 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR3-1600 CL11 Memory
- 1 x 250GB SSD, 4 x 4TB HDDs
- OMV 6 OS installed to the SSD
- Netgear R6350 router - changed DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and backup to 1.1.1.1 last year troubleshooting a DNS problem on my homeassistant RPi
- 8 port ethernet switch (forget make and model)
- Netgear wifi range extender setup as a WAP (not in use for this project, figured I'd mention it in case it might be relevant somehow)
- First troubleshooting post on the OMV forum
- Github issue I opened on the OMV github
- Second troubleshooting post on the OMV forum
- Current error message from OMV when trying to pull the plex container image
- Goal is to run network storage pooling 3 of the 4 HDDs using the 4th for parity (I was using mergerfs and snapraid on OMV), then via docker add plex and Home Assistant etc on top of OMV
- latest troubleshooting apparently points toward ISP level proxy but the IP address apparently suggests not a proxy
I'm looking for either some insight to what the problem might be (and hopefully advice to troubleshoot the problem) or suggestions for a different OS so I can get things back to normal, my wife is a bit upset with me taking down our plex server. (If new OS, would need something that wont require to erase the drives, thats sort of a deal breaker at the moment)

2023.06.09 01:46 WolfRevolutionary557 Computer turns on, but monitor, keyboard and mouse doesnt register
So lately my computer has been freezing up completely for the smallest things like joining a discord call, and I have to force shut and restart to fix it. This has never happened before and my computer havent really had any issues. Today it froze up again for like the 5th time and after i force shut it and tried to restart, my computer booted up, led lights were working, fans were working, but nothing happened. The monitor kept saying no signal and my mouse and keyboard didnt light up like it always does. I checked all cables, unplugged everything and plugged back in but still the same issue. I have to admit that ive been really bad at taking care of the computer. I bought the computer in 2018 and ive probably cleaned the inside of it once or twice so its full of dust. I also turn on and off the computer a lot which i know can damage the battery and i often just unplug the computer instead of turning it off. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me solve the issue or give me any tips. I will put my specs bellow if it helps.

2023.06.09 01:28 Nazenn A lazy mans weird logic: Moving a setup between cases is tedious, may as well buy the whole new one. Need help finalizing CPU cooler and anything else I may have missed
Yeah it's dumb logic, but as my current build is almost 8 years old and starting to get to that point where I'm below minimum spec on new games coming out it needed a redo anyway. Just a year or so sooner than I thought. Only thing on my horizon right now is Dragons Dogma 2 anyway and who knows what the specs for that will be, though I can't imagine I'll have any problems with what I've listed here.
Just posting for a general sanity/savings/wtf did I not think of check that really needs a second pair of eyes
Budget: ~$3,000 AUD (approx 2000usd, but also australia tax)
Will mostly be used for gaming at 1440/60 fps (using a TV mostly, hence the framerate), as well as some AI art gen (12gb wanted for that and general use), and hopefully getting back into 3D modelling (though not rendering), but I am hoping for this to last me many years until a forced upgrade, like my current one.
But that budget is for a complete setup redo as by chance in the last six months I've also had my mouse scroll wheel break, my cat smacked one of my screens and damaged it, and my keyboard is having issues I can't fix without potentially learning to solder.
And I don't want any RGB or fancy features so all that has been excluded here.
PCPartPicker Part List
Total (Not Yet Purchased): $2184.38
Don't need an OS as I'll be transferring Win 10 from my current system.
Already brought some parts because as I said, I was planning on just migrating to a new case so I got what I needed for that so bugger on the sata instead of the m.2 but oh well.
And no I'm not an MSI fanboy, it just turns out the motherboard is on a huge sale, the 6750xt are somewhat hard to come by here and the Gigabyte and ASUS models I've heard reports of coil whine which leaves this one, and the screens are a nice upgrade to what I have now while being 40 bucks cheaper per screen then the next model up I was looking at.
Main points of concern:
I went Noctua just because of reliability and low noise, but was also tossing up the Dark Rock Pro 4. I heard the Dark Rock is hard to install, but is it that much of an issue, and is it really going to be quieter than the Noctua?
Other recommendations welcome, minimal noise is a focus along with good enough cooling for 13th gen
I don't technically need a z790 as I doubt I'll overclock the CPU (and from what I understand it's not that needed any more), but I would like in built bluetooth as I'm sick of the issues that come with a usb dongle, and I also need at least five usb ports in the back, as well as preferably two M.2 slots.
Given the other options out there, and this one being on a significant sale, it seemed like a good offer while looking that little bit better thanks to the I/O shroud. I also want to stay away from ASUS due to having had issues with them in the past (funny timing given AMD events) and Gigabyte both due to their security issues and an alarming amount of refurbished models I'm finding on aus sites which raised alarm bells, unless you think that's not an issue.
Is being reused from my current build unless you think that's an issue. It's still within it's 10yr warranty (not that know where the receipt is) and it is EVGA and known for being reliable.
First time using AMD. Anything worth knowing first? I know the odd game has weird issues with it (Prototype won't render shadows for example) but from what I know that's the rare exception and modern games have no issues?
Think that about covers it. Thanks for any input guys.

2023.06.09 01:17 _blue_spirit_ Help please! Wanting to upgrade my GPU...
I am wanting to upgrade my GPU to either the 4070 or the 4060 ti from my 2060. Would this be a significantly noticeable upgrade and can anyone tell me which one would be the best bang for my buck based on my current system specs? OR if something would be bottlenecked? I also plan on upgrading my ram from 16 GB to 32 GB as well... Thanks in advance for any help provided!
Motherboard - MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX II (MS-7C02)
CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 3700x
GPU - GeForce RTX 2060
RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C16D-16GVKB
SSD - Western Digital WD BLACK SN750 NVMe M.2 2280 1TB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 64-layer 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) WDS100T3X0C
Also, what should my PSU wattage be if I upgrade to one of those cards?
