2023.06.09 16:09 Octopusscaterpillar Vehicle sale Scotland unroadworthy car?

If a vehicle is deemed unfit for public highway, is it therefore deemed unroadworthy? And if so, is it illegal for a dealership to have sold said vehicle to an u suspecting member of public? Any links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have a mid 2000s car with a salvaged title (hail damage) that I need to sell. Suggestions for any dealerships that would be potentially interested in buying it off me? Or suggestions about how to do a private sale without having to have random internet people come to my house to look at the vehicle? Thanks!

Charity Shop Find - Yard O Lette.
Last week's charity shop find. Rolled gold Yard O Lette. Not sure of model and wonder if the blue box helps with giving it a rough date? I'd love to have an idea of which decade.
Has an almost complete lead in it and several in reserve so will be a while before I need to find leads, I hope. I already have and use an Eversharp got at a car boot sale, but am liking this better.

2023.06.09 15:44 alwaysblessedbygod My(32F) ex bf(33M) of 10 years came back. I am happy but anxious. How can I be comfortable with the idea of getting back with him?

My(32f) ex bf(33M) bf of 10 years came back, I am happy but anxious and not comfortable. Please help me!
My ex bf came back last month, I am happy but always anxious and not comfortable. What should I do?
I am (32F) from Asia and now live in Canada. I am a software engineer from a prestigious institution of UK and working in worlds biggest IT farms since 21. I met my boyfriend Sam(33M) 14 years back when I was studying in UK. He was a painter and I encouraged him to learn animation (funded the course fees) as his family was not present with both his mom and dad chose their own families after the divorce. He was vulnerable, used to work in a cafee near our university and lived in that cafee and used to draw cartoons on the road on his free time to sale to the tourists. Being a foreign student and very introvert, I had almost no friends from my class. I was always like this, busy with studies and not interested in anything else. Anyhow since I met Sam in the cafee he used to work, he became my only friend and best friend. Eventually I finished my Engineering and got job in a big company but the location was Germany. I was very sad to go to Germany leaving Sam behing but in my surprise he said he loved me and doesn't want to stay in UK alone. He accompanied me and we both started living in Germany in our 20s..due to language problem he didn't any job there(not even in cafee). I enrolled him to learn animation as he was very good in making cartoons. I fell in love with him eventually and we spent 4 years in Germany. But due to language issue Sam didn't get any job there I decided to take a job in Canada and we moved here together. It's high paying job so I bought a house and car. Sam got a job too in animation, it doesn't pay well but something that he likes. He had minimum contribution like sometimes groceries etc..almost all expenses were taken care by me. I used to travel all over the world till 2019 for my work(IT onsite work) and accompanied Sam everywhere with me. I told my family about Sam and they liked him. Only my mom was skeptical about not changing my religion, after marriage as Sam is Christian. Though we had no plan to get married when I told what my mom said jokingly and he took it in offense. Saying he is not thinking about marriage etc..I was offended like by 2020 we were already together more than 10 years so obviously we would get married sooner or later so what's the problem. It didn't set well with me so I pushed him about his reaction. He eventually told me that he is gay, he discovered this when he met a guy in an art exhibition and they clicked. They even secretly started meeting and he is from the same race as him(both are White). I asked if they are sleeping, he admitted yes and that's how he knew he is gay.
The whole world shattered for me. The guy whom I sheltered, taken care and till now taking care of told me that he is just with me because he didn't know he is gay! And everything became untrue. The affection for me became habit and he didn't want to tell me because how much I have done for him. I cried, shouted and was so angry to waste 10+ years of my life and I lost my golden years! I calmed down and let him go, it was difficult for me to do so. Because I have psoriasis, started around my 28 years and I am not comfortable with anyone else than Sam.
After our breakup in 2020 covid hit hard. My travels stop. I couldn't go home and lived in that big house in this cold country alone. Worked from home and barely took care of myself. I saw the posts of Sam and his handsome boyfriend and lost it again. Sam begged me to keep contact as I am his only friend in this world. But he soon forgot about me and never contacted. I felt used and betrayed. I worked almost 20 hours a day and that helped my career a lot. I got a huge promotion and started traveling again since end of 2021. I was just back from my latest work trip from Spain and found Sam sitting on front of my house in May 2nd week. I was shocked and happy to see him. He hugged me and said I became slimmer. I never loved anyone but him so I became emotional and asked him what happened why is he here? He said that he realized that no one can love him more than I loved him. He realized that he is not gay but bi sexual and broke off with his bf (as he is very rude and bossy) and came backe to me. He tried to contact me but I was travelling so he came directly. I thought something was off but I still took him in. I asked him repeatedly if he really broke with his bf and what if he again goes for other guy.
He brushed me off saying that I am the guy in our relationship as I provided for him and he doesn't need any other guy. I asked about him mentioning the same race thing. As I am from Asia will that be a problem again? He said that's the excuse his ex bf asked him to tell me so that I take offense and let him go. That night he wanted to kiss me but I told him not to rush and wait for some time. What if you patch up with your bf. He said he broke off totally and he is sure not to go back to him. but he understands my concerns and will wait till I am ready to take him back.
This time he wanted to contribute in household a lot more and also apologized me profusely for taking me granted. Also asked why I am single since last 2 years is that because of my psoriasis or I still love him. I told him both are the reasons. My psoriasis is not that bad, only on feet and palms and can be covered and not visible to others. But while undressed it's obvious to be noticed. So I am very afraid of dating anyone except Sam who knows me well and accepts me as I am. I am happy and wants to kiss him and hug him but I am anxious all the time what if he leaves me again for another guy! I am not comfortable staring any relationship again with him thinking what if he again does not like me and keeps comparing with him ex. I tried to openly discuss but he is not getting it. Should I just tell him that it's not possible anymore because of his sexuality I no longer feel comfortable?

2023.06.09 15:43 DoctorSuperZero Hyperstitious - 11 - Sniper Bots & Blackmarket Personality Profiles

Xan is the world's most dangerous criminal mastermind. He’s also in hiding and completely broke. That’s fine. He’s between master plans. It’s normal to be at rock bottom between master plans. He also forgets stuff and may be trapped in a dream.
Because at night, Xan thinks he’s an old lady, trapped in a dingy apartment, by an angry fellow who wants to kill her. Not her idea of a good time, but she’s keeping an open mind. It is excitingly visceral. Could turn out awesome.
Hyperstitious is a sci-fi, progression, comedy. Guaranteed to cause more mental problems than it solves.

Dark City - Police Chief’s Apartment Building
I wake to madness slightly muffled by thin apartment walls. Fuck.
Now there’s two psychos roaming the halls, wailing for my death. Well, one’s screaming Die and stabbing doors, the other’s just roaring and slamming into things. Semantics. They both want me dead.
As I lie next to my sweaty bedmate, a thought slowly congeals.
“Fuck this. Let’s leave town.”
Really? asks Volt.
“Why not? I’m not attached to any of this. I don’t even know where we are. We’ve got a truck. Let’s see what’s over the horizon.”
It takes 48 minutes to get out of the building. 46 minutes of listening for an opening, and two minutes of sneaking - but eventually we’re back at our truck. Once again, I’m struck by how stupid it is to get back in this truck. The cops are after me, what if they are watching it? People want me dead, what if there’s a bomb in it? But I’m still bankrupt for options, and forced to rely on the incompetence of strangers.
The truck starts and doesn’t explode. We pull away and no one follows. Yee-fucking-haw.
I toss Volt on the dash and let her drive. Conserve my strength. Take in the sights. We’ve got snacks and a full battery. It’s 20 minutes to the edge of town. The outskirts have a rundown, stripmall vibe. The graffiti gets bigger as the buildings get smaller.
- DONT RUN! THE DOGS WILL SHOOT!!
- RANDO FOR MAYOR!!
- GO BACK!! YOU WILL DIE!!
- PLEASE STOP!! THE DOGS WILL KILL YOU!!
Fun stuff. Quite the art installation. Volt doesn’t notice and I can’t be arsed. Fuck this town. It’s either leave or burn it down. They’ll let me go or wish they had.
The truck slows. The road isn’t blocked, but congested with rusted out vehicles. Volt weaves through them slowly, while my newly excellent vision picks out their broken windows and headless corpses.
“Huh. Maybe we should speed up.”
Tricky. Bit of a traffic jam.
“Do you see any dogs?”
Nope. Just broken cars with headless drivers.
“Does that seem weird to you?”
Should it? Is this not how cars are normally abandoned?
“Not really. Looks like these guys were shot.”
Noted. Must be easy to shoot a guy with no head.
“They probably had heads before they were shot.”
The truck lurches to a stop. Reverses full throttle.
“I was hoping you’d accelerate in the other direction.”
Nope.
We try a couple other ways out of the city, but they’re equally bleak. Headless skeletons everywhere.
What the fuck? Is this normal?
“No. Something has gone very wrong.”
Is this our problem? Do we have to deal with this?
“I don’t know. But this feels bigger than us. We should focus on dying from much smaller problems.”
Volt stops the truck. What are we going to do, Xan?
“About the psychos? Diplomacy’s out. Running and hiding ain’t working. That leaves us with ambush or allies. What’s your poison?”
We sit in silence for several minutes. Finally, Volt quietly says: Allies.
“Cops again?”
Do we have other options?
Now it’s my turn to think. The city is full of people. In theory we have many options. In practice, they all have the same problem.
“Do you know how to wake people up? Without freaking them out?”
I thought I did. I woke you up.
“That’s right. What did we do differently when we woke me up?”
A couple things. I woke you from inside the dream. You knew you were going to another reality. We didn’t peel off your brain sticker. There was a lot less slapping.
“Ah yes, the slapping. We may have been a tad abrupt. Let’s wake the Deputy from inside the dream. Is there any easy way to find him?”
I have a 60 year old name and an address, but that won’t help us find him in the dream. It was designed for anonymity.
“Of course it was. Well, Liam has a profile on everyone in Bright City. We just need to make a profile for the Deputy and match them up. Shall we browse his socials?”
We could, or we could buy a packet of profiles for everyone in Dark City. Bit of a time saver.
“We don’t have any money.”
We can pay in crypto.
“wat? You said they don’t take crypto here.”
Not for legal shit. When breaking the law, untraceable videogame money is accepted. Sometimes. It still has value. Kinda. To some people.
That’s a lot of qualifiers. Fuck it. I’m on borrowed time. Anything that saves a minute is worth my videogame points. I tell Volt to make the buy, then get a weird feeling. That’s most of my net worth.
“I swear to god, if reality is a long con to get my crypto, I’m gonna fucking kill everybody.”
Nah, we’re good. Shit’s totally meaningless. You won’t regret this.

2023.06.09 15:39 piercerson25 Hoover Cleanslate for $80 better than $120 Bissell Green Machine?

There's a sale on Cantire for the Hoover Cleanslate at $80, PowerScrub at $150, and Powerscrub Deluxe at $180 Canadian Rupees.
With the Bissell Little Green Machine being cheapest at $120, it seems like a clear winner being the Hoover, right?
I'll be using the deep cleaner for bad stains in my entire car, and small areas of carpeting in my temporary (for a few months) trailer.

2023.06.09 15:35 snicker_poodle1066 Car Dealerships Hate EV/PHEV's - Thankfully Ford has its on-line ordering

It has felt like I always get resistance or even attitude when I ask about EV's or PHEV's. Dealerships are standing in the way of progress and great cars. Great article. Here is an extract:
This was not his first presentation, he told me. Hecklers were not uncommon. EVs were up against the economic interests of dealers, who were already conservative—i.e., prone to be suspicious of them—and the full force of Fox News was giving dealers a spread of made-up reasons to hate EVs even more.
“There’s a lot of resistance,” Buzz told me, “because of the compensation plan. We’re asking them to make about a quarter of the income they used to make. So there’s lots of pushback, especially if they’re staunch conservatives.”
In other words, even if the dealers’ lobby were able to contain the Tesla contagion, legacy-brand EVs sold through dealerships still posed a problem. This was partially because of virtual showrooms—companies were creating their own sales floors online, and setting transparent, no-haggle prices. But more importantly, dealers make the majority of their money on servicing cars and financing them.

2023.06.09 15:33 Atomicblonde So you want to import a horse (tales from a first timer)

For context: I am based on the US, ride dressage and work with a trainer who has imported numerous horses, so I was pretty well prepped on what to expect. Nothing was bad or crazy about this experience, I just feel like this might help others out there.
Finding an agent: Most likely if you are working with an experienced trainer, they will have contact info for an agent in Europe. If not, always ask how the agent is compensated. Some go on % of the price you pay on the horse, but others go on a fixed cost model (fee + travel expenses like hotels, food, rental car). Personally, I prefer the fixed cost model, but to each their own. Make sure you are clear with the agent about your price range and know that they typically work in euros - so if your budget is in USD or your local currency, do yourself a favor and make the conversion ahead of time. Also remember that that conversion changes regularly and, when you're talking in 5-6 figure budgets, you will notice those differences. Also be clear about any deal breakers. If you are staying in one general area, you probably need 4 days or so. Give yourself more time than you think you need (explained in etiquette section)
Booking the trip: Chances are, if you want to be able to view video ahead of your trip, you will not get a long lead time between booking and going. Obviously flights can be cheaper if you book well ahead of time, but sellers can only hold horses for so long. Some are quite accommodating and will hold for a week or 2, but remember that this is an inherent cost on their end. Also, when it comes to hotels and such, trust that your agent knows the best places to stay. A good agent will know small, nearby places that are typically less expensive and closer to the barns.
Etiquette: Shopping in Europe is quite differently paced than shopping in the US. For example, when you arrive, they will typically sit you down and have some coffee, maybe tell you about the stables, etc. It's friendly, welcoming and shouldn't be rushed through - even if you are dead-set on seeing a lot of horses on your trip. Great barns want to know that their horses are going to the right homes. When it comes to trying the horse, however, the timing aspect is sort of reversed. The moment you know this is not the horse for you, even if you haven't gotten on, you can say that you would like to pass. They will be glad you haven't wasted their time and will not be annoyed (I tend to find that such a terse interaction in the US would be considered rude - that doesn't apply at these barns that are getting in people regularly from around the world). Just as an aside, the horses will always be fully braided and turned out as if they are headed to a show. I honestly think that that presentation (and the offering of a drink or coffee) are very inexpensive ways that US sellers could heighten their game. But I digress.
Vetting: At least in Germany, it is federal law that the seller provide a standard set of 18 x-rays at their expense. I think it's feet (not skyline view), hocks, and stifles. Any additional x-rays can be purchased at your cost and they are generally quite a bit cheaper than in the US (because vets are doing x-rays regularly). So, for example, I added back and neck and the clinic charged me 250 euro. I vetted 2 horses and the sellers actually paid for both clinical vettings because, by their explanation, I was the first to vet both horses and it was easier for them to pay for it and then own the vetting if I decided to pass so they could keep it on file. (Obviously I was given the reports first so it's not like I had to get the reports through the sellers and worry about tampering or whatever)
Price negotiations: Aside from a language barrier and having a guide through the country, this is where a good agent can be key. This is a lot like it is in the US (prices can change based on vet findings, etc), but having a native speaker is very helpful. Also be aware (if this matters to you) if the seller works on a "coupon system". Essentially, some really big sale barns will tell you "if you don't like the horse, you can exchange it for another of equal value in such and such length of time". I'm honestly not sure if I find this good or bad, it's just sort of how it works. These barns have so many horses, it becomes easier to basically give you "store credit" to buy a different horse than give back your money. Oh, because I forgot to mention: European laws protect the consumer far more than the US (which does basically nothing in the case of horses). You have 2 years to return a horse, even if the horse was properly represented and it just didn't work out.
Import: Depending on where you fly into, it's safe to say that you will need to allocate $7500-$12k to import. Geldings only require 2-3 days of quarantine (depending on the time it takes to get bloodwork done), so that is why they are the most popular for import. Mares have to stay in quarantine for 3 weeks (I think that's right? Feel free to correct me anyone who has experience with this). If you are importing a stallion, I believe they are also 3 weeks AND they are required to breed to 2 mares during that time (it's flushed, no foal) to ensure they don't have equine STD's. Obviously since this is quite a hassle, only certain quarantine barns will accept stallions and I'm sure the import cost is far beyond what I have estimated above. Also, a pallet of horses (yup, they call them pallets) has 3 stalls and they will not fly the horses if the pallet is not filled. (Yeah, no extra leg room situations)
Ok, this was pretty long, but I'm sure I've missed something. If anyone has questions, please ask! I hope this was interesting and/or helpful.

2023.06.09 15:29 EmptyFace3480 Auto Loan Issue

Hello! I came to Reddit because I am extremely lost I’m 22 years old and essentially I was pre approved for an auto loan through my credit union, I then made the first mistake of getting a car through carvana. I put about 2k down on a Chrysler 200 and the rest was financed with the amount I was provided (cashiers check). 2 months later and endless calls to my bank asking why payments were not coming out with no answers other than “carvana has not provided all documentation, just keep the car until further notice”. I receive an email…not a phone a call, from a carvana customer service representative who said I owed $4,906.00. I thought it was a scam so I immediately called carvana and after having the vehicle in my possession for over two months demanded I pay the amount immediately or they would come retrieve the car. I just moved to a new city by myself, started a brand new job, and pay all of my own bills, I did not have almost $5k to dump into a car only worth 10k even after the total amount coming out to 16k with tax, title, delivery, etc. They claimed this was all my banks fault even though all of the loan documents and information were provided to them prior of purchase. Anyways fast forward I return the car and set off with new terms from my bank (approved for more money and my APR went down) I head on over to H Greg dealership and thoroughly explain this whole situation I was in prior. The financial manager, the car sales man, and the manager all promised multiple times that I “would not be allowed off the lot with a new vehicle if something like that were to occur again”. They insured this to me THREE time because I kept putting emphasis on the prior issue that occurred, the LTV issue and how much of a pain it was to go through. I sit in this dealership for 6 hours as for they claimed they needed to contact the other location in which did the underwriting to make sure everything went smoothly and no future issues would arise. Everything goes great, I get the car , my car registered with insurance, all paperwork signed and I’m off on my way. I have now had the car in my possession for over a month. I get a call yesterday from the finance manager who directly promised me himself this would not happen asking for an additional $1400. Explaining “my credit union uses a different book than they do to value this car” and that although it’s not my fault he needs me to pay $1400 or drive the car back in the lot and return it . Please help me, this feels awful and for how “rare” this is I am unsure how I’ve been in this situation twice. I explained so many times I would have turned my happy a$$ around THAT DAY if I knew this was to occur and that they promised me their word and have failed me as a customer. Is there anything I can do? I don’t know how I’ve had the car for over a month now and I’m being requested to put more down. I know $1400 might not seem like a lot but for a 22 year old living on their own in todays day it is for me. Please help if you can with any advice possible . I reside in Florida I’m unsure if that helps.

2023.06.09 15:28 QYResearchEurope Automotive Dashboard Camera Market Expected to Reach US$ 4,786.13 Million by 2029, QY Research Reports

Contact: [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])
Global leader in market research reports, QY Research, has released new insights on the surge in demand for dashboard cameras (dashcams) in the automotive industry. The growing popularity of dashcams is primarily due to a rise in vehicle accidents, leading to their widespread use for recording incidents, aiding legal proceedings, insurance claims, and protection purposes.
The global automotive dashboard camera market, valued at US$ 3,075.40 million in 2022, is projected to hit US$ 4,786.13 million by 2029, growing at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 6.65% over the forecast period (2023-2029).
China represents the largest market share, with nearly all vehicles equipped with dashcams. The Chinese market, which was worth US$ 1,271.07 million in 2022, is anticipated to reach US$ 1,710.41 million by 2029, marking a CAGR of -3.39 %. On the other hand, Europe is demonstrating rapid growth, with the market expected to increase its proportion from 14.14% in 2022 to an estimated 17.38% in 2029.
By vehicle type, the market is divided into passenger cars and commercial vehicles. The passenger car segment is predicted to maintain the majority of the market share, due to safety, insurance, and recording needs, along with parental concerns about children's driving habits. Notably, ride-sharing platforms are also increasingly deploying dashcams for consumer safety.
Dashcams play a vital role in commercial vehicles such as trucks, buses, or industrial vans, for preventing false claims, observing driver behavior, and correcting dangerous driving habits. Moreover, the combination of dashcams with Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) offer substantial benefits to fleet managers, driving the growth of the dual-channel dashcam segment.
The market, highly fragmented in nature, includes key players like Kenwood, Thinkware, Nextbase, 360 (QIHU), AZDOME, Philips, First Scene, Comtec, Garmin, Yupiteru, JADO, HP Image Solution, Pittasoft, 70Mai, SAST, and more. In 2022, the top 5 global players held about 22.42% of the total market share.
QY Research’s report provides a comprehensive analysis of the automotive dashboard camera capacity, production, growth rate, market share, from a regional and country level, from 2018 to 2023, and forecasted up to 2029. It also focuses on the sales of Automotive Dashboard Cameras by regions (Countries), companies, by type and by application, from 2018 to 2023, and forecasted to 2029.
The thorough and accurate assessment in the report includes key market dynamics, competition, regional growth, verified market figures including global market size in terms of revenue and volume. Furthermore, the report provides precise figures for production by region in terms of revenue as well as volume for the period 2018-2029, including production capacity statistics for the same period.

2023.06.09 15:25 Real_HankHill Ohio Total Loss Sus Insurance

Long story short I was involved in an accident and this is my first time really dealing with my insurance. My insurance rushed to total my car which had almost no damage but the airbag did go off, they gave me a valuation that was slightly less then the value left on the loan ~$100 but didn't include any sales tax in their claim. I asked about this sales tax before verbally accepting the claim and was told directly by the insurance agent "We will pay for the sales tax, but only after you accept the claim." so I accepted the claim and had to hold their hand and push for updates for over 3 months (was making car payments on two cars at this point because they were stalling on paying off the value we agreed on). Eventually They accidentally emailed me (I think this was supposed to be an internal email and they accidently left me on copy) telling me they planned to auction off my car for quite a large sum of money. A few days later they sent me an email telling me they actually don't have to pay the sales tax in OH and that I would need to pay the sales tax on the totaled vehicle. They also said they wouldn't reimburse me for sales tax on my new vehicle because it was a lease.
My question here is what are my options here? If they would have told me upfront and been quick/efficient about things I don't think I would be as annoyed. Does them giving me false info to accept the claim matter? I wasn't out to make money off my insurance I just wanted them to cover me so that I'm not stuck with thousands of dollars in bills. Looking back into their original evaluation there are features and configurations they didn't include in the valuation, can this be disputed still? I was naïve and assumed they WOULD cover the cost of everything so the valuation matching the balance of the loan was all I cared about ,but now with the possibility of me being on the hook for thousands of dollars I didn't think I would be responsible for I kinda care. The only time I had accepted their claim was verbally on the call that they told me they would cover sales tax after I accepted their valuation. I read through my insurance policy and confirmed their valuation was not dependent on them auctioning my car so would there be any legal reason I couldn't keep the title from being transferred to them and auction the car myself? It just seems odd that they are wanting me to pay sales tax for them to sell a "totaled" car for ~14k. I'm in Ohio and I was also made aware of a successful class action lawsuit against Geico (not my insurer) here in Ohio forcing them to pay the sales tax on totaled vehicles.

**Forgot to include that they slow walked even telling me they would not be paying the sales tax until 30 days after I got a new vehicle which is apparently the deadline to submit for reimbursement. I called, emailed and submitted messages through their portal atleast 2-3 times per week asking what was going on with the sales tax and it wasn't until well after this 30 day period they started responding.

2023.06.09 15:23 QYResearchEurope Automotive Dashboard Camera Market Expected to Reach US$ 4,786.13 Million by 2029, QY Research Reports

I was refueling my car at the 95N service plaza in southwestern CT and a man approached me asking for money, saying he had been stuck there for three hours and needed a part for his truck and it was $15 and his card had been declined. Scam or a stranger in need? What do you think?
