Bugs in toilet
Any ideas? They don't seem to be bothered by the water (most are swimming), but also crawl fine on land. Found two in my bathroom sink yesterday and got rid of them, but it seems they've multiplied since then. Could they be coming from the pipes?

2023.06.09 16:55 aggressive-winter-24 My family is going to ruin my marriage.

My parents are a mess. I feel guilty for feeling the way that I do. Growing up they weren't wonderful parents but they weren't that bad, either. I hear horror stories of what some parents do to their kids and I feel like I should just be grateful but I'm not. I resent them for being a mess and I'm starting to hate them.
When I was 22 my now husband and I moved back to our home state from out of state and we crashed in my parents basement. The plan was to stay there for a month or two tops, we had already secured jobs and were looking to get an apartment. That quickly fell apart when we realized my parents were 6 months behind on almost all the bills and were about to lose the house.
My dad hasn't worked in almost 8 years. He has back pain but can't get approved for any kind of disability benefits because doctors testify at the hearings that he can work and chooses not to. My mom always worked factory jobs and couldn't afford to do it on her own.
We agreed that we would stay for a year. We could save up money and also help them get caught up. We did that. But somehow the bills would get behind despite us giving my mom over $1500 a month (more than half the bills). Somewhere along the way my brother moved back home too. He works full time but only makes like $14 an hour. He gave my mom like $50 a week.
It's been 6 years. We got married 2 years ago and my mom had a complete mental breakdown. She said I was "grown up and didn't need her" and she didn't know what to do with herself. She quit her job and left my dad. She moved out and her only income is from my aunt, who pays her to raise my cousin. She also got back with her abusive ex and doesn't listen to anyone's concerns about that because "she's an adult".
So now it's me, my husband, my brother, and my dad. My brother still makes $14 an hour and my dad still doesn't have any income. He's trying again for benefits now that he is divorced but we don't know if he will get them. My brother refuses to get a higher paying job because he "has back problems too". My dad coddles him.
We pay every single bill other than the mortgage ($700) and they still ask to borrow money for that sometimes. And my dad treats us poorly. He says it's "his" house so he can do whatever he wants when he wants. He yells at us like we are children. He locked us out of the thermostat, tells us what we can and cannot do. He gets mad when we get takeout food and don't offer him any. Whenever we are in the kitchen he comes in and asks what we are doing and gets in the way. When he found out my mom had a boyfriend he banned me from having her over.
My mom has no life goals or plans for herself. She lives off my aunts money and stays out all night with her POS boyfriend. My cousin will graduate in 2 years and then I have no idea what she's going to do for money. Probably expect me to take care of her or move in with her boyfriend. She shows up whenever she wants and doesn't respect boundaries (this stopped only briefly while my dad's "ban" was in effect but he quickly got over it)
My husband is mostly supportive but I can feel that he is reaching his breaking point. He barely talks to my parents and when he does it's usually rude even though he swears he's trying to be nice. He's just done. It's that simple. And I get it because I am too. But I just don't know how to leave my family stranded and homeless. There is no one to help my dad and brother other than themselves and they have no motivation to do it because my mom always took care of everything for them.
I don't know what to do. At the beginning of the year we told them we were moving at the end of the year. It's halfway through and there are no changes. No efforts for a better job, just living life like we will be here forever. I feel that at the end of the year my husband will move with or without me and I don't blame him.

What You Get:

Course #1

Black Friday Bootcamp

This is a short course I created for one of my e-commerce coaching groups. It outlines the high level strategy you need to use to MAXIMIZE sales for BFCM.
I go over everything from how to map out your promo calendar… what emails to send when… exactly when you should START and FINISH your promo(s)… and, most importantly…
… how to STAND OUT and grab attention in an overcrowded inbox, so you can break every sales record.
Once you watch this mini-course, you’re going to be pumping out high-converting BFCM campaigns in no time!
Course #2

Make It Rain Monthly

BFCM/Q4 Planning Call

This is a special “members-only” coaching call I recorded with a handful of my top students to help them prepare their clients’ brands for BFCM success.
I even critique (and edit) a few of my students’ BFCM emails during this call.
You can look over my shoulder and see how I think about constructing these email campaigns and sequences – super valuable!
Course #3

Make It Rain Monthly Issue #8

The Black Friday / Cyber MondayMEGA Issue Part 1

  • My “A-Z” roadmap for creating highly profitable Cyber Week email marketing campaigns.
  • The FIRST email you should send in the month of November, to increase the sales you make from every email you send for the next six weeks (I actually wrote this email for you. You can swipe it verbatim. Just swap in some small details about your business, hit send, and watch the sales start rolling in.)
  • How to map out a three-month promotional calendar in less than 60 minutes. (Plus, how to come up with the topics to send, on which days, to the right subscribers.)
  • What to do (instead of just giving a discount or giving a bonus) that’ll incite a buying frenzy, generate word of mouth buzz, create raving fans, AND could possibly lead to record-breaking sales.
  • A breakdown of a collection of BFCM emails, including some from a sequence that brought in six-figures in one week flat.
Course #4

Make It Rain Monthly Issue #9

The Black Friday / Cyber MondayMEGA Issue Part 2

  • The “Magic Box” Method I used to free up 25 hours of creative time on my calendar, so I could get more work done in less time, with less stress… and more time to myself.
  • The biggest mistake I made as I began growing my team… and how I fixed it so everyone could perform at a higher, more autonomous level.
  • How to finally get clear on what you want in life… and how to go get it.
  • Why trying to be a ‘cool boss’ might hurt your team more than help it.
  • One psychological insight that’ll make selling to ‘people with money’ 10x easier. This works especially well if you’re selling a high-end product/high-ticket service.
  • One software that can cut your weekly call volume down by 70% (or more).
  • The “AC” email promotion that’ll send your Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales through the roof.
  • How to scoop up TONS of sales from people who didn’t buy from your BF/CM campaign.
  • Why giving a discount might actually HURT your sales and turn off a large percentage of your customers.
  • When to use a discount vs other types of offers in your emails (they both work and can both be used strategically… but you’ve gotta do this right.)
  • How to instantly induce an “I’ve gotta spend money with this brand” feeling in your customers… even if they weren’t planning on buying anything five minutes before seeing your email.
  • A breakdown of a six-figure BF/CM email campaign (meaning: we actually ran this for one of my e-commerce clients and generated six-figures in sales with it).
  • A two-word subject line you can use on Black Friday to stick out like a sore thumb and get your subscribers’ attention… even when everyone else is screaming about their sales.
  • The one type of campaign you should run if you feel like offering discounts ‘cheapens’ your brand.
  • How to adapt this campaign for OTHER holidays throughout the year (like Mother’s Day & Father’s Day). I even riffed off a quick email hook you can keep in your back pocket until spring.
Course #5

Make It Rain Monthly Issue #20

The Black Friday / Cyber Monday2021 Gameplan

  • The SMS Sign Up Sequence that helped us grow an SMS list by 1,000+ subscribers while generating $10,000+ in sales.
  • How to make a TON of sales on Thanksgiving… without pissing off everyone on your list. (In fact, people will be giddy with anticipation if you do this promo right.)
  • A psychological trigger you can use in your copy that makes your customers go crazy for your products.
  • Why BFCM21 is going to look very different than years past… and the changes you should make to your strategy to stand out in the inbox (and make a ton of sales).
  • How the smartest marketers and brand owners are adapting to iOS14 and iOS15 (and the big shift you need to make to thrive).
  • Will SMS marketing replace or kill email? My surprising answer on page 3.
  • How to dramatically increase your EHR (effective hourly rate)… so you can increase profits while working less.
  • Insights from an SMS campaign I ran back in 2017 that worked incredibly well… and got people asking us to send them MORE texts (it’s a cool approach you can adapt for your own brand).
  • How to write headlines and subject lines that trigger INSTANT curiosity… that suck your prospects in and DEMAND attention. (Try this with your landing pages and advertorial pages and watch your click-thrus SKYROCKET)
  • The #1 copy mistake I see most copywriters and brand owners make with ALL of their emails, landing pages, ads, video scripts, and more.
  • Fix this one thing and you’ll be amazed at how much better your copy reads and converts.
  • How to get your customers to ‘think past the sale’ and get emotionally attached to your product… so they feel compelled to buy. (Sneaky… but powerful. And yes, totally ethical.)
  • 6 SMS messages that ‘primed the pump’ for our sales pitches… while making our customers feel a rush of positive thoughts and emotions.
  • The secret to writing tighter, pithier copy.
  • 3 copy principles for high converting SMS messages.
  • Two simple examples of an SMS list building campaign that you can whip up in a few minutes to start growing your list.
  • The Ultimate “Trojan Horse” campaign to get your customers primed and ready to buy from you for BFCM.
  • The Triple Threat BFCM campaign calendar you should try this Q4. (Could it triple your sales? Only one way to find out…)
  • What almost EVERYONE gets wrong about Gary Vee’s jab-jab-jab-right hook approach to marketing… and why it might be the smartest tactic to use come this Q4 (and beyond).
  • 5 more SMS list building examples that can get you a TON of new subscribers while making lots of “easy sales” in the process.
  • How to use email to ‘scoop up’ buckets of new buyers… even the people who DON’T buy from you.
  • Are you scared of emailing too often? Check out the tip on page 22 that’ll reduce your complaints and increase your sales.
  • The four core campaigns EVERY brand should be running on a monthly basis… even if you’re not in e-com. (I use this with my own list and it works incredibly well.)
Course #6

Holiday Sale Super Sequence

Want to scoop up even MORE sales during the holidays (without the hassle of figuring out your promo calendar)?
This Holiday Sale Super Sequence is based on campaigns I still run for my agency clients that generate anywhere between $30-$50K — without fail.
Comes with SIX email templates, a quick-start implementation video and super secret bonus.
So if you want to generate massive sales easily every time there’s a holiday… then this training is going to help you make that happen.
This sequence is PERFECT for BFCM… but you can even modify it to run other holiday sales throughout the year.

2023.06.09 16:55 Notrollinonshabbos Health in America.

I’m fat… I’ve been fat all my life. Even as an active athlete back in high school I was heavy. But that was 14 years and 130 pounds ago.
I know I don’t have a great relationship with food. Never have. Bit of a binger with an addictive personality. It doesn’t help that I. Love. Food.
But I’m 31. Getting married next year. And I want to get on the right track. I enroll with a therapist because I know if I don’t take action on that front any weight loss I do make won’t be permanent. We need to work on how I relate with food. Cool. Talk options with my pcp on getting me some help medication wise.
GLP-1’s seem promising. They’ll curb my appetite and help with getting the ball rolling, while I get started with a therapist. I know this is a long term project. Right fast forward a week medication is on hold because the insurance company denied the Prior fucking authorization because they have “more questions”. “Do you really need medication? Have you tried dieting? What are you doing in your life to make changes?” Jesus Christ. My DOCTOR board certified in internal medicine, with a specialty in bariatrics, 20 years experience agreed with the Fucking treatment. And some fucking pencil pusher is going to throw a wrench in the whole program for what? To save their bottom line?
Maybe when I keel over from a heart attack or get diagnosed with diabetes maybe then I’ll get the help I’ve been asking my whole life for.
Fuck American health care.

2023.06.09 16:55 Assembled-Different Singing at a longer gig today, worried about vocal damage/losing my voice

I've been preparing for this gig for the last couple weeks, I was singing through about 10 songs a day most week days, taking a day or two off here and there to make sure I was getting enough rest. Monday I had a full rehearsal with my band and on tuesday I felt like my voice had been strained/weakened.

No pain or real discomfort so far but I also have not sung at all since then because I wanted to make sure I was 100% for this gig. I have not really tried to sing since then but I have to essentially sing 30 songs tonight that range from extremely easy to moderately difficult in terms of strain on my voice. I'm fairly used to using my full range when performing so this is not a new thing for me, but I just want to make sure I'm able to get through this gig tonight without losing my voice.

I've been drinking hot tea, avoiding smoking/drinking, going to bed early etc.

In terms of vocal rest I have not sung since Monday but I cannot go without speaking due to the nature of my job. Wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or has some tips for me to avoid any lasting damage or losing my voice before the gig is over.

how long is it going to take for my guy to spark back up? (Details below)
Marvin has been with me for about a month now. I got him from a friend who kept him in the cup for weeks, then moved him to a .5 gallon tank. He was suffering, not eating, had no stimulation so I offered to take him. He currently lives in this 9gal fluval tank by himself until I can assure my tank is fully cycled and ready for some tank mates.
I’m concerned he isn’t going to become bright and happy again? I’ve noticed quite a difference in his tails end, it’s growing out more (the white part) but other than that same old.
He eats with me now, but not nearly enough. He typically eats a pellet (sometimes two) a night so I throw in some treats and he eats those. I’ve tried 3 different types of food with him and he really just doesn’t like anything I feed him. I believe she fed him pelletes. I even tried flakes, nothing.
any suggestions on how to make his life more comfortable and happy? I just got him the new decor piece in the middle, he has a cave, a floating log, plants (that need to grow in) and aqua soil. My perimeters have been in tact as I’ve been doing consistent water changes waiting for the cycle.

Can anybody tell me anything about Marryat fly rods? A 9’ Pikky 9/10 wt has become available locally but I’m not at all familiar with the brand. I’ve been in the market for a pike/striped bass rod for a little while. I don’t need top of the line because I don’t fish for these species often.

2023.06.09 16:54 panicked_worm Tips for an upcoming fistulotomy

Hello all sorry we all have to be here. So I have a possible fistulotomy/possible cutting seton coming up within the next two weeks. Was looking for any thoughts/tips as to things you wish you had known or done that you know now. Also looking for a little calming as the anxiety is really starting to build now, and the fear of waking up with a cutting seton, screaming in pain makes this very, very difficult.

2023.06.09 16:54 shinyandblue Advice for a warm pantry

We bought out first home a few months ago. The pantry is a small closet with two external walls on the second story in the south west corner of the house. It's a split level home with the kitchen on the second story above a rarely used guest bedroom. There are two separate HVAC systems and they seem to function well.
The pantry is much warmer than anywhere else in the house. Opening the door makes it clear there's a significant difference in temperature, the air isnt circulating, and it's almost humid? Root veggies, citrus, etc go bad so quickly even when stored properly we've started only keeping a week's worth on hand (we used to keep them good for ~2 months by hanging them in mesh bags). I'm concerned our grains will go rancid faster too.
Is there any easy way to improve the temperature/ air circulation in the pantry? Is there something we can line the walls with? Is adding an ac vent in it someday realistic? It's too small for a fan. I'm considering taking the door off and just hanging a curtain, but that won't keep all of the light or our cats out.

2023.06.09 16:54 abinormal77 Exhausted Gemini

Wondering if I’m alone here but I’m kinda just tired of my Gemini-ness and would love some tips/cures/recommendations of how to settle my ass down for a second. I turned 46 this May and I just want to be less talkative and more decisive.
I hear other people who have immediate decisive reactions to things and it’s honestly amazing to me. Like, people instantly decide they don’t like someone. Or they instantly decide something that is happening is wrong. And I’m all like “but what if (fill in the blank)?” about everything and it’s exhausting. I know it’s good to have an open mind all all that but damn I end up feeling like a naive idiot sometimes.
I also often feel like I wear my family and friends down with my “too much-ness”. So, I try to quiet myself down and just be a listener who says a couple of things like a normal person. But ultimately at some point (usually just like a day or two) I find myself in the middle of an intel-bombing. Like I’m this balloon that got too full that I literally pop from the pressure and confetti my loved ones with random facts and news that I’ve collected like a crow. So, my experiments have not worked and if any other Gems have felt this way, I’m open for suggestions and advice.

Is there any solution to this.these kind of action are being common.
A 14-year-old Hindu girl was raped, bludgeoned with a hammer and then hung from a fan in Takrohi area of Lucknow’s Indira Nagar, UP on Thursday.
Police said that the accused Shahid barged into the victim’s house in Takrohi between 1:00 and 1:30 pm on Thursday. He then sexually assaulted her, and killed her (archived link) with a hammer. Before fleeing the house, he hung her body from a fan in her room.
The victim’s parents iron clothes for a living and had gone to their shop when the accused entered their house and committed the crime after locking their two smaller children in a room. The victim’s father said, “My wife reached back home and found Shahid standing in the verandah. When she tried to hold him, he pushed her and ran away.”
Certain social media handles have claimed that the accused Shahid had been stalking and harassing the minor child for a while, although we have not been able to independently corroborate this.

2023.06.09 16:54 Seekay5 "Murphy" aka Jack makes comment

On Murphy's IG
Happy Birthday Kaylee ❤️ In March of last year Kaylee had the spontaneous idea of getting a puppy together. Even though I wasn’t sure if I was ready for a puppy, I hesitantly agreed we should make it happen. Less than two weeks later we drove 16 hours to bring home baby Murphy.
What a blessing this pup has been. Thank you Kaylee for being the bright, spontaneous soul you are as I wouldn’t have sweet Murphy if it wasn’t for you. Thank you for shaping Murphy into the good boy he is.
I see every wag of Murphy’s tail as a tribute to the happiness you brought him. We love and miss you so much.
Happy Birthday Kaylee 🐾💕👧🏼 #kayleejadeday
So Kaylee wore the pants in the relationship.
This sorta goes with my speculation on why they broke up. She was getting out of school and starting her work life. Jack dragged his feet and didn't want to commit.

2023.06.09 16:54 Jim3857 First time calling 911 on my cell phone

My wife and I were driving home yesterday on the NJ parkway. She was driving. It is three lanes and my wife is in the middle lane. A guy passes her on the left and cuts in front of her with about one car length clearance and then proceeds to slow down slightly so that my wife had to brake. About 30 seconds later, my wife signals to the right to change lanes. Before she can, the guy moves to the right lane (no signal) and blocks her, so before her lane change is even complete, she moves back to the middle lane. The guy looks like he is staying in the right lane so my wife starts to pass using the middle lane, except the guy moves over the dividing line about a foot into the middle lane, so my wife lays on the horn for about 2 seconds. She ends up passing him, but he follows us and starts to continuously blow his horn whenever he is to the side of us or behind us. My wife speeds up, but he continues to follow and do this. I call 911 and get patched through to highway patrol. I describe the events and give them a description of the vehicle and its license plate number. What are the odds that the Highway Patrol actually tracked this guy down and did anything?

2023.06.09 16:54 bikingfencer Galatians chapter 5 - vices and virtues

Galatians   Chapter Five
-1. The Anointed frees [שחרר, SheeHRayR] us unto freedom [חרות, HayROoTh], therefore stand, and do not submit [תכנעו, TheeKhahN`Oo] again [שוב, ShOoB] to yoke [לעל, Le'oL] the slavery.
“The expression for freedom [επ ελευθερια - ep eleutheria] (in slightly different Greek form) appears in the certificates of sacral manumission which were given to slaves who purchased their freedom. The slave would deposit the money in the temple of his god for the priest to transfer to his master “for freedom.” He then became the slave of his god, free from his human master.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X pp. 545-546)
“Among the Jews, the Messiah’s reign was to be a reign of liberty, and hence the Targum [ancient Jewish commentary] on Lamen. [Lamentations] ii. 22. says, “Liberty shall be publicly proclaimed to the people of the house of Israel, על יד משיחא âl yad Mashicha, by the hand of the Messiah, such as was granted to them by Moses and Aaron, at the time of the Passover.” (Clarke, 1831, vol. II p. 393)
...
-5. And we, in spirit upon foundation [of] belief, waiting [מיחלים, MeYahHahLeeYM] to hope [for] fruit, the our righteousness [δικαιοσυνης - dikaiosunes, justification, righteousness].
“The language is so compact that Paul’s meaning has to be inferred from 3:14; 5:22-23; and Rom. [Romans] 8:23-26.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X pp. 548-549)
“The full measure of human righteousness is still a thing of the eschatological future (cf. [compare with] Rom 5:19).” (Joseph A. Fitzmyer, 1990, TNJBC p. 789)
“That they could not have the Holy Spirit, without faith, was a doctrine also of the Jews; hence it is said, Mechilta, fol. [folio] 52. ‘That faith was of great consequence, with which the Israelites believed in Him, who, with one word, created the universe; and because the Israelites believed in God, the Holy Spirit dwelt in them; so that being filled with God, they sung praises to him.’” (Clarke, 1831, vol. II pp. 393-394)
-6. That yes, in Anointed YayShOo'ah ["Savior", Jesus] there is no thought [חשיבות, HahSheeYBOoTh], not to circumcision [למילה, LahMeeYLaH] and not to foreskin [לערלה, Lah`ahRLaH], rather to belief, the laborer in way [of] love.
“No passage in Paul’s letters is of greater importance for integral understanding of his religion and the relation of his faith to his ethics. The mutuality of faith, hope, and love – a theme repeated with many variations – runs through everything he has written and forms the substance of his theology. … Paul’s religion is distorted whenever his ethics and his ‘good works’ are made to appear as an incidental by-product of his faith rather than as one of its essential ingredients.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X pp. 550-551)
“This humble, holy, operative, obedient LOVE, is the grand touchstone of all human creeds, and confessions of faith. Faith, without this, has neither soul nor operation: in the language of the apostle James, it is dead, and can perform no function of the spiritual life, no more than a dead man can perform the duties of animal or civil life.” (Clarke, 1831, vol. II p. 394)
...
-12. Would that [מי יתן, MeeY YeeThayN] and be cut [ויכרתו, VeYeeKahRThOo] the misleaders [המתעים, HahMahTh`eeYM] [of] you!
“‘I wish that those who are upsetting you would even emasculate themselves!’ This is what Paul said and meant. … for a similar outburst see Phil. [Philippians] 3:2-3, where the advocates of circumcision are ‘dogs,’ and by a play on words – περιτομη [peritome’], κατατομην [katatmen] - ‘circumcision’ becomes ‘mutilation.’ Paul may have been thinking of the mad spectacle of the Cybele-Attis cult, whose priests in frenzied devotion used to emasculate themselves as a sacrifice to their deity. … The shock of Paul’s statement to the Judaizers can be measured in the light of the prohibition in Deut. [Deuteronomy] 23:1. To a devout Jew his blunt language would be as sacrilegious as a Christian would find the wish of a disbeliever in sacraments that all advocates of baptism would drown themselves. Never happy after making such denunciations (II Cor. [Corinthians]1:23-2:11; Phil. 3:18-19), Paul quickly changes his tone…” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X pp. 554-555)
-13. My brethren, to freedom you have been called,
only that not be, the freedom, means [אמצעי, ’ehMTsah`eeY] in hands of the flesh,
rather that minister, [each] man [את, ’ehTh (indicator of direct object; no English equivalent)] his neighbor in love.
“To be freed from the ceremonial law, is the Gospel liberty; to pretend freedom from the moral law, is antinomianism.” (Clarke, 1831, vol. II p. 395)
-14. See, all the Instruction included [כלולה, KLOoLaH] in saying [במאמר, BeMah’ahMahR] one – “and love to your neighbor like you.”
“The quotation is from Lev. [Leviticus] 19:18; cf. Rom. 13:8-10 [and Matt. [Matthew] 7:11 (Joseph A. Fitzmyer, 1990, TNJBC p. 789)]. The tense of the verb ‘fulfilled’ is perfect; thus Paul says that the whole law is fulfilled, in the sense of ‘has been fulfilled’ whenever one man loves another as himself…. Paul the Christian loved his neighbor not because a commandment disobeyed would bring punishment, or fulfilled would merit reward, but because it was his new nature to do to.
But who was Paul’s neighbor? He was, first of all, ‘the one who was near,’ the fellow member of the society of Christ who needed help to bear life’s burdens (6:2). Then, with continuously lengthening radius, Paul drew a series of concentric circles to embrace all men (6:10; I Thess. [Thessalonians] 5:15; I Cor. 9:22). Even his enemies were included, for Christ received sinners, and personal vengeance was no fruit of the Spirit (6:1; Rom. 12:20; 15:1-3). … He bore the burden of his neighbor’s sins, and although he sometimes had to threaten them, he was never without hope for their repentance (I Cor. 4; II Cor. 12:19-13:10; II Thess. 3:14-15). He could hurl anathemas, and his friends did not always find him easy to get on with … but the love of Christ would never permit him to contract the circle of his neighbors (Rom. 9:1-3; 10:1; II Cor. 7:5-16; 1:23-2:11). (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X p. 557)

Fruit of the Spirit and usurpations of [ומעללי, OoMah`ahLahLaY] the flesh
[verses 16 to end of chapter]
-16. Say I to you, walk in way the spirit and do not fill [את, ’ehTh] desires [תאוות, Thah`ahVOTh] [of] the flesh,
-17. for the flesh desires [מתאוה, MeeTh’ahVeH] to what that is in opposition [שבנגוד, ShehBeNeeGOoD] to spirit, and the spirit is opposed [מתנגדת, MeeThNeGehDehTh] to the flesh. [The] two [of] them oppose to this to this, and to that [ולכן, OoLeKhayN] you are not able to do [את, ’ehTh] what that is in your want.
“This is Paul’s way of stating the Jewish doctrine of the ‘two impulses’ which are at war within the heart of man. The rabbis declared that God created Adam with two inclinations, one good, the other evil, and required him to choose which to obey. He was free to follow his good impulse, but he chose the evil, and so did all his descendants. Consequently every man became the Adam of his own soul. Some maintained that the evil impulse awakened at the age of nine, others at twelve. Study with practice of the Torah was the sovereign remedy to wear it away …” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X pp. 561)

-19. Deeds of the flesh are revealed [גלויים, GLOoYeeYM], and these are they:
adultery [נאוף, Nee’OoPh] and fornication, impurity [טמאה, TooM’aH], licentiousness [זמה, ZeeMaH], 20. slavery of idols, magic [כשוף KeeShOoPh in my Hebrew New Testamenti ; the Greek here is “φαρμακεια pharmakeia - the use of drugs of any kind, whether wholesome or poisonous...” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X p. 562] hatred, contention [מדון, MahDON], stinginess [צרות עין, TsahROoTh 'ahYeeN, “squint eyed”, Ζηλος Zelos jealousy], anger [כעס, Kah'ahÇ], strife [מריבה, MeReeYBaH], divisions [מחלקות, MahHLahQOTh], factions [כתות, KeeThOTh], 21. envy, drunkenness, profligacy [הוללות,HOLeLOoTh], and as similar.
Say I to what that I already said: doers of deeds like these will not inherit [את, ’ehTh] kingdom of the Gods.
“Πορνεια [Porneia] ... fornication ... means ‘prostitution’, but includes sexual vice and unfaithfulness to the marriage vow. The task of the church in creating a conscience on this matter was made doubly difficult by the practice of prostitution in the name of religion. Long before Paul, the prophets had denounced the fertility cults and made prostitution a synonym for idolatry.
Φαρμακεια [pharmakeia] ... Since witches and sorcerers used drugs, the word came to designate witchcraft, enchantment, sorcery, and magic. The law of Moses prescribed the death penalty for it, and the prophets denounced the Egyptians, Babylonians and Canaanites for practicing it; but this did not prevent the Jews from producing some famous practitioners (Acts 13:6-12; 19:1-20). Next to state-worship, magic was the most dangerous competitor of true religion... claiming to specialize in the impossible, it prostituted faith to superstition, and divorced religion from ethics. ... In Paul’s spiritual arithmetic, faith plus miracles minus love amounted exactly to zero....
Ερις [Eris] is ... strife ... The spirit of Eris is perfectly described in the words of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland – ‘ambition, distraction, uglification, and derision.’
The fact that he expected the near return of Christ to end this present age must not be permitted to obscure the equally important fact that he regarded his own life and witness for Christ as an essential element in hastening that event.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X pp. 561-565)
-22. In opposition to [לעמת, Le`ooMahTh] this, fruit of spirit:
he is love, happiness, peace, patience, [ארך רוח, ’oRehKh Roo-ahH, “length [of] spirit”] generosity, good heart, faithfulness, 23. modesty [עננה, `ahNahNaH], restraint [רסון, ReeÇOoN] [of] self– upon such [מדות, MeeDOTh] as these there is no instruction further [חלה, HahLaH, sic ["so in cite"] for חלאה, HahL’aH!].
“Since love is a personal relation it is not a matter of law, and cannot be commanded; and since it is God’s own love growing as his ‘fruit’ in the hearts of men, no one can claim it as a merit for self-salvation. ...
... in every age ... men have found it hard to see how God could have anything in common with humanity, and Christians have been tempted to make a distinction in kind between God’s love and man’s love. Paul’s authority has been claimed for this dualistic view. Αγαπη [agape’] is set against ερος [eros]. God’s love is said to be αγαπη reaching down to save man by his grace, and ερος man’s self-love aspiring upward to save himself. Paul’s αγαπη is associated with justification by faith, the Greek ερος with salvation by works.... Jerusalem and the Christian faith are made to oppose Athens and human reason, and the conclusion is drawn from the history of Christianity that ερος, man’s self love, has always been a source of corruption of αγαπη, love inspired by God’s grace.
This interpretation of Christian love is intended as a defense of the doctrine of justification by faith and as a means of securing scriptural support for a dualistic philosophy which aims to protect the transcendence of God against humanism. But to draw such sweeping conclusions from a word study of two Greek nouns, without adequate consideration of other related Greek words and ideas, is to oversimplify. The LXX [The Septuagint, the ancient Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible] is full of evidence that this distinction between αγαπη and ερος cannot be maintained on the basis of lexicography. The Greek O.T. [Old Testament] uses both the noun αγαπη and the verb αγαπαω [agapao] to express not only God’s love for men, but man’s love for God and for his fellow man. Although there is no certain evidence that the noun αγαπη was used by nonbiblical writers prior to Christianity, the argument from silence may be invalidated by future discoveries, and it would be precarious to conclude that αγαπη was a specifically Christian word.
One-sided emphasis on God’s love as ‘unmotivated’ by anything in his creatures tempts men to regard him in the light of an egotistical philanthropist who expects gratitude and praise but neither needs nor desires the mutuality that is inherent in the very nature of love... Without a faith that dares humbly to believe that God needs man’s love ... the Christian’s conception of his high calling to be a kingdom builder is liable to reduce itself to blind obedience to commands given arbitrarily for man’s good while awaiting God’s eschatological fiat. Such a misconception is bound to give aid and comfort to the inclination of human nature – ‘the flesh’ – to divorce religion from ethics.
Grave moral consequences result from such a view of Christian love. It is associated with a doctrine of predestination that makes God’s choice of the objects of his salvation utterly arbitrary.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X pp. 565-566)
“The peace which was the fruit of the Spirit ... could be trusted to keep men's hearts and minds (Phil. 4:7), so that they need have not anxiety about anything. This explains the sublime recklessness of the Christian peacemakers. Being colaborers with God (Rom. 8:28), they were aggressors for peace. They aimed to live at peace with all men (Rom. 12:18), but fear of making enemies did not turn them from their task of producing soundness, wholeness, and harmony in a world of chaos. Their reasonable service was to ... substitute the righteousness and peace and joy of his [God's] kingdom (Rom. 14:17) for the low aims of 'the flesh,' thereby creating the conditions for peace. Their ideal was to live so that quarrels could never get started.
Christian peace was therefore neither the calm of inactivity nor the mere passive enjoyment of freedom from strife. It was not the imperturbability of the Epicurean, or the apathy of the Stoic, or the contemplation of the mystic. The man who possessed it was not exempt from storm and shipwreck, but by faith he knew that he would arrive in port (Acts 27:21-25), and that all was well for him and his fellow men of faith ... And so, where all else was panic, he played the man.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X pp. 567)
“... just as God’s patience was not to be presumed upon, so the Christian’s patience was not a spiritless good nature that would put up with things which it could not escape, or would not prevent. It was patience with a purpose, as in Paul’s pleas to Philemon, which contrasts so sharply with the Stoic motive for self control... Those who bore this fruit ‘turned the world upside down’ (Acts 17:6), and the enemy did not know how to deal with such unheard of patience and persistence.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X pp. 568)
“Negatively defined, gentleness is everything that the ‘insolent, haughty, boastful’ men of Rom. 1:30 are not. It is the opposite of υβρις [hubris], the worst of sins in the eyes of the Greeks – deliberate, arrogant defiance of the gods by overstepping the limits set for human beings. In the O.T. such men are called ‘sons of Belial,’ the turbulent, highhanded wicked, who rage against God, kill, rob and enslave the righteous ‘meek’ and take possession of the earth for themselves. The psalms are full of moans and complaints against this rich and powerful majority, who used religion as a means of gain and kept their consciences in flexible subservience to the exigencies of power.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X pp. 569)
“’Εγκρατεια [Egkrateia] is temperance (KJV [King James Version]), self-control (RSV [Revised Standard Version]) ....
The Stoics had helped to prepare the soil out of which this fruit of the Spirit was to grow. They insisted that the sovereign reason could and should control the passions. They believed in a law of nature to which they must conform, and they endeavored to maintain their inner freedom under all circumstances. But their motive was very different from Paul’s, the one being devoted to the glory of the God of grace, the other to the preservation of the sovereign self-will. When the Stoic collided with things beyond his control, his inner independence turned into apathy, practicing the motto ‘When we can’t do what we want, we want to do what we can.’ He took orders from his commander in chief, an impersonal God who had the power of life or death; but he did it in such a way as to make it clear to God and men that he, the Stoic, was after all the captain of his soul. He controlled his anger because he found it a nuisance to be under the power of any passion and in his sight meekness was contemptible weakness...
Paul exalted humility: ‘It is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me’ (2:20). ... His self-discipline was the result of his spiritual experiences, rather than an undertaking to induce them; and his self-control was sane compared with the ascetic excesses of later Christian groups such as the ‘Encratites,’ who forbade marriage and followed fantastic dietary rules.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X pp. 569-570)
“Unrepentant sinners have no appetite for the fruit of the Spirit, and when its production and distribution require changes in the political and economic status quo, men ... pass laws against it ... Especially in time of war these traits of Christian character have been forbidden fruit, though given for the healing of the nations. Occasionally the world, exhausted with fighting, and sick of its cynical Epicureanism, has professed a desire for the fruits of the Spirit, but on its own terms without the cross required to produce them.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB X p. 570)
... 26. Do not, please [נא, Nah’] be panters of [שואפי, ShO’ahPhaY] honor vain [שוא, ShahVe’], the provokers [המתגרים, HahMeeThGahReeYM] and enviers [ומקנאים, OoMQahN’eeYM] a man in his neighbor.
“The right stood in terror of the iconoclasm of the left, and the radicals labeled all other men reactionaries ... Both sides professed to love liberty and defend it, but neither was willing to grant it to the other.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X p. 572)   END NOTE

Trying to pick a good bedroom rug!
We haven’t really done any decorating in this room so it feels like a blank slate when it comes to finding a rug. Our summer quilt is the parachute box quilt in clay, so that’s the only real pop of color currently at play in here. I’d love any and all rug recs! I don’t think I want a jute rug since the texture is a little too rough for right by the bed. Ignore the chair and orange ottoman - those two aren’t permanent in the room!

2023.06.09 16:54 AloneCartoonist367 Should I invest?!?!?

Hey everyone, I’m considering moving some funds into Pokémon cards and was just wondering if anyone had any advice? I’ve been searching for a few days looking for a charting service so I can make an informed decision, and after finding price charting.com, I’ve got a decent idea of the prices of the last two years but that’s about it. So I guess I’m asking does anyone know of a service that goes back farther or has any other advice on what to look out for? I’m not so much looking for what cards to buy (although it helps) more so the tools to make my own informed decision, making sure I dont overpay (or rip someone off). Certain tactics I thought of have been only buying 1999 charizards and/or finding the hottest card of the most recent set and trying to get one while prices are still reasonable…..anyway….thanks in advance 🔥

2023.06.09 16:53 Nsomewhere Update on neutering trial: second neutering implant

I have decided to postpone neutering for now.
Not for behaviour reasons or really much more than a mild question in he has lost a bit of confidence but not badly... more I am just incredibly busy and do not have the time to make an op good calm experience and be around for long enough calm routine IMO.
There is just so much going on this summer and he will be inkennels for the middle of it
I am putting it off to the autumn
He has had a rubbish year with two bouts of kennel cough and still this lingering cough and I want to train and him to have a good summer of health
Does this make me a owner of a reactive dog: worry wort coward?
Probably!
But honest my guts says oh just too risky. OK will have to pay what £120...£130... but sigh can do it for peace of mind and my gut feeling of not upset and stress him. Any illness or off routine and his gut issues start and his pancreatitis flares. It has been a long year of monitoring his health and fretting
Yes I am a coward... bad r dog owner but I really am thinking of him
He will get neutered but when I can do it properly!
For the update on the neutering implant trail (we have just gone over six months) No change in his reactivity (frustrated greeter) I can put down to neutering although it may have had a slight impact along with the train train training we have been doing! Lots. Also he is 3 and 3 months now (was 2y9m) when it went in more or less.
So probably more training impact
Any negatives. Not much although he is slightly more hesitant around some dogs (puppish dipping almost.. slight timid... very noticible shift with some dogs he knows well) and odd occurance of kind of doing a show and coming forwards defensively/ reactively towards three dogs.. ones that are less confident and one younger male intact (18 months)

Going to discuss with trainer
Keeping training!

Anyway good vets. Very good. Phoned at lunch thinking next week appointment. They said oh if you can do five today we can fit you in. Just opened a pack of implants this morning... they are in the fridge: bring him in and we will give him the second one
Service!
I would very much conclude that the implant trial has been a win win and no downside except cost if anyone else wants to try it
It is good

2023.06.09 16:53 TopSupermarket6 Legendary aspects fron dungeon awarded to the party leader?

Brand new to Diablo :)
My friend and I went through a few dungeons together last night because we were learning about Legendary Aspects and wanted to try them out for ourselves. We learned that different dungeons give Legendary Aspects to different classes, so we decided to do two of them. One is for his class and the other is for mine.
After he finished two dungeons, we found out that he got both Aspects, even though one of the dungeons was for an Aspect class he wasn't playing as at the time. It also looks like he can't give me this aspect.
What's happening? "Progressing the party leaders' story" doesn't seem to make much sense when you play as a party.
If I wanted to get a certain Legendary Aspect from a dungeon with my friends, I'd have to make sure we were all playing under "my" account while I led the group, right? If we both wanted to get one at the same time, would that be like having two parties in one night?
Again, I'm new to Diablo, and playing as a Necromancer is a lot of fun. Just a little confused about how deep the game goes...
Thanks!

2023.06.09 16:53 DisorganisedPigeon Ex called me a sociopath and blocked me after contacting her mother about our breakup. Do you think I am one or was she lashing out?

Me and my ex had broken up a couple of times in our 9 months together. I was always caring and loving, but we did have bouts of arguing and disagreements which eventually drained her and she called it quits. She lost her son 3 years ago and had been getting counselling lately, suffers from depression, autistic and doesn’t like to go out much because of it.
When she broke up I pushed a bit questioning why as she was so into me a few days before. It got to the point we sent a few long messages back snd forth but could tell she was getting annoyed so I dropped it and apologised.
She replied back but I decided not to. The following morning she sends me this: “Right no! Absolutely not! Why the fuck are you messaging my mum! Fuck off! Leave me alone. I don’t want you anywhere near me! How fucking dare you message my mum and show her conversations of us! Your a fucking psychopath! Keys gone in the bin! Now! Now I don’t want anything to do with you!!”.
Her mother had been helping me understand how she works in difficult times (as my ex didn’t speak much about it) and I’d brought up a conversation of when she was excited for a holiday and house and told her I was confused why she wanted to break it off. Her mother was supportive but I realised I crossed a boundary here.
My ex found out as I forgot I asked her mother to chase up my spare key and then I’d already asked my ex after.
Two hours after she sent that message, she saw me typing then blocked me on whatsapp.
I’ve attempted to apologise on instagram last week but she left it unread, so this week I posted a letter apologising it was wrong for me to cross that boundary, wishing her luck in future.
Our relationship had it’s problems and I was responsible for not being as fun towards the end hence the breakup, but I absolutely hate she sees me as a sociopath now. Was this just her lashing out and do you think one day she could forgive me?
(I planned to message her mother again to see if she got my apology letter, but realised this would go against what I was apologising for. I know the letter got there, but obviously don’t know if she read it or not)
